The Accounting Clerk provides essential financial and administrative support to the Finance team. The role is responsible for processing financial transactions maintaining accurate accounting records supporting reconciliations and assisting with documentation required for audits vendor payments and internal reviews. The Accounting Clerk ensures that all financial entries are properly recorded in line with accounting standards and company policies.
Responsibilities
Record daily financial transactions including purchases expenses payments receipts and journal entries in the accounting system.
Assist with preparation of payment vouchers petty cash entries expense claims and reimbursement support documents.
Maintain organized and accurate filing of invoices receipts financial documents and supporting records for audit readiness.
Support reconciliation of bank statements supplier ledgers customer accounts and petty cash balances.
Verify accuracy and completeness of invoices purchase orders and delivery notes before processing.
Assist in tracking accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure timely payments and collections.
Enter supplier invoices into the accounting system and escalate discrepancies or missing documentation.
Support monthly closing activities including accrual postings basic schedules and financial data collation.
Provide administrative support to the Finance Team including photocopying scanning and retrieving documents.
Liaise with internal departments to obtain approvals verify transactions and clarify financial documentation requirements.
Assist with inventory costing records and stock movement postings as required.
Support external and internal audit processes by providing required financial documentation on time.
Maintain confidentiality of financial information and uphold compliance with company financial policies and controls.
Requirements
Minimum of OND/HND/BSc in Accounting Finance Business Administration or a related field.
Minimum 13 years experience in an accounting or finance support role.
Basic knowledge of bookkeeping ledgers and financial documentation procedures.
Experience using accounting software (e.g. Sage QuickBooks Tally or ERP systems) is an added advantage.
Relevant Certifications:
Nigerian (Preferred): ICAN ATS / AAT Level certification (highly preferred) Associate membership of accounting bodies (student level acceptable)
International (Added Advantage):Relevant bookkeeping or foundational accounting certifications Introductory IFRS training
