Job Description and Responsibilities
A Senior Principal Systems Engineer in Indianapolis typically supports engineering teams by leading program development from concept through verification and validation. Key responsibilities include:
- Define and guide complex system designs across the full development lifecycle on air sea or ground platforms.
- Provide strategic direction and mentorship to engineering teams ensuring technical excellence
- Coordinate with software hardware and integration teams to align system requirements and performance.
- Identify risks early manage requirements rigorously and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Drive technology roadmaps and contribute to long-term product and capability planning to meet program financial commitments.
- Serve as a technical liaison between the technical team and company leadership.
- Travel to customer sites for requirements gathering and/or product demonstration.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related STEM field.
- 12 years of experience in systems software or hardware engineering.
- Strong understanding of the System Engineering Lifecycle and related processes.
- Experience with hardware development programs test procedure development and system verification.
- Supplier management and subsystem/component oversight experience.
- Proven leadership abilities and strong communication skills.
- U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge and practical experience in network architecture design deployment and troubleshooting
- Experience and/or knowledge of Agile techniques (Scrum Kanban Scrumban etc.)
- Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies.
- Background working with DoD customers (Army Navy Air Force Marine Corps).
Education / Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if degree is required.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related STEM field.
