JOB TITLE: Technician Maintenance
Child Nutrition Department
REPORTS TO: Supervisor-CN Maintenance & Equipment
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non-Exempt
PAY GRADE: CN 5
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing maintaining and repairing all gas and electric equipment in all Spring ISD kitchens including cooking cleaning hot/cold holding refrigerated and non-refrigerated equipment. Assist in maintaining parts supplies equipment and tools necessary for the successful maintenance of all equipment. Assist in training school staff on necessary preventive and regular maintenance techniques and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
- Texas Air Conditioning and Refrigeration License
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English
- Valid Texas Drivers License
Preferred
- CDL preferred
- Texas State Journeyman Electrical License preferred
- Five years experience working with food service equipment
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Possess knowledge skills abilities and physical attributes to perform all essential
- functions associated with the maintenance of commercial-grade equipment
- Knowledge of the potential hazards and necessary safety precautions involved in the use of equipment tools and supplies required by the job
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with the Child Nutrition
- Department staff and all other Spring ISD staff
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work tasks to meet deadlines
- Skills in basic mathematical calculations numerical and clerical type functions
- Basic computer skills for data entry
- Skills to communicate effectively maintain a positive and professional attitude
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Responsible for the repair maintenance and upgrades of all equipment in SISD kitchens
- Installs maintains and repairs all gas electric & refrigerated and non-refrigerated kitchen equipment at each assigned campus
- Diagnose problems and make recommendations for repair service and/or replacement of equipment and/or parts
- Maintain the safety of all equipment and make an immediate determination if a piece of equipment is safe to operate
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections & prepares all assigned tasks to ensure safe effective and efficient completion of all job assignments
- Proficient in the use of specialized test equipment and keeps up to date on applicable local state and national codes dealing with all aspects of Child
- Nutrition and ensures compliance with those codes
- Coordinate with the Supervisor of Maintenance for assistance on the placement and installation of new equipment
- Develop and follow a plan of action to address repairs and/or problems including necessary equipment parts supply lists in addition to a timeline required to complete the work
- Assist and work with additional CN maintenance staff and/or district staff as necessary to complete all work successfully
- Assist in transferring delivering loading and unloading food and/or non-food items as necessary by use of hand hand-truck/or pallet jack or forklift
- Train school staff on necessary preventive and regular maintenance techniques and procedures to improve the life of the equipment
- Detect necessary repairs on CN vehicles and equipment utilizing established inspection procedures
Communication
- Maintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers supervisors school staff other district personnel parents students and the general public
- Provide outstanding customer service
- Documentation and Recordkeeping
- Maintains & completes Work Order Forms on equipment repairs by itemizing
- cost of parts Freon and labor hours
- Maintains an inventory of all equipment/tools in Spring ISD kitchen facilities vans & the shop area
- Schedule service maintenance on the Child Nutrition van
Emergency Work Schedule
- Responds to emergency call-outs (7 days a week/24 hours a day) as assigned
- Respond to emergency/crisis situations under the authority of the Operations Coordinator
- Assist in removing and transporting equipment freezer/cooler/dry food items from one campus to another location or campus
- Coordinate holiday and vacation time with the Supervisor of Maintenance to ensure the Child Nutrition Department maintenance needs are covered at all times
- Per all other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Functions:
- Ability to perform tasks bending twisting reaching pushing pulling standing stooping kneeling climbing and walking
- Normal mobility of fingers hands wrists arms neck back waist legs knees and ankles
- Ability to bend over at the waist and twist the entire trunk from side to side
- Ability to reach above the head and in front of the body at least 24 inches
- Ability to push and pull items up to 150 pounds
- Ability to lift materials up to 50 pounds and carry (while walking) 25 pounds for distances up to 20 feet
- Ability to stoop and kneel up to 30 times pr 8-hour work shift
- Ability to climb to next to last step on a 14-foot ladder
- Ability to walk at a pace necessary to complete the work schedule assigned
- Ability to grip small hand tools and equipment with enough strength to use them in the manner intended
Working Environment:
- Required to use chemicals in the performance of maintenance and repair.
- Outside work may be required for the necessary repair of equipment
- Work inside with and without air-conditioning depending on the facilitys requirements.
- Work in adverse weather conditions when necessary
- Occasional prolonged or irregular hours
Personal Protective Equipment:
The Maintenance Technician must be trained and prepared to use the following safety Equipment:
- Rubber gloves
- Safety goggles
- Vinyl apron
- Back support belt
- Any other safety equipment required by the Child Nutrition Department.
Audio/Visual Demands:
- Corrected 20/20 vision.
- Good depth perception.
- Ability to distinguish between colors.
