GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assists staff attorneys and Executive Director of state government agency with various aspects of legal work including research document drafting and interviews. Must be detail-oriented with heightened organizational time management and task prioritization skills.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Directly supervised by staff attorneys and Executive Director
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
- Assist with administrative hearing and trial preparation
- Conduct legal research to determine precedence or to help build a case
- Draft legal documents including affidavits subpoenas motions briefs deposition notices decisions on motions and decision & orders
- Arrange appointments and correspond with parties and representatives
- Interview parties and witnesses
- Handle various aspects of discovery including document review and production
- Organize case files
- Manage exhibits
- Related work as assigned

Demonstrated aptitude/proficiency in:
- Legal writing
- Law/legal terminology
- Legal processes and procedures
- Business communications
- Research (Westlaw)
- Investigation
- Interviewing
- Word Excel
- Appointment setting
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Bachelors degree in paralegal studies pre-law legal studies or related field and/or paralegal certification (Certified Paralegal Professional Paralegal or Certified Legal Professional);
Experience: Such as may be gained through five years employment as a paralegal in a law firm or government agency setting;
OR Any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
