Job Summary

The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West Great South Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including: GP Clinics Primary Health Care Counselling NDIS and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

About the role

The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate the delivery of social and emotional wellbeing activities (SEWB) including coordinating a team of workers. The role will provide leadership and ensure the delivery of services adapt to the changing needs of community whilst ensuring quality timeliness and effective service delivery. The position will work with local community and stakeholders to delivery local projects and programs which focus on increasing the social and emotional wellbeing of individuals young people family and community.

This leadership role has varied responsibilities which include:

  • Mentor and lead around 10 SEWB team members and the day to day manage of that team.
  • Demonstrate practical and innovative leadership in the design implementation and evaluation of Social Emotional Wellbeing programs.
  • Collaborate with other service providers to ensure effective service delivery and increase community networks.
  • Coordinate delivery of key programs community events public education activities to the community.
  • Actively seek and establish new programs and initiatives for Aboriginal people.
  • Undertake reporting activities as required

About you

This role will suit someone who is passionate about improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal communities. You will have experience within a leadership position and enjoy working daily with a team. You will bring the following experience and qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in mental health social services or similarly field or relevant workplace experience.
  • Demonstrated skill and/or ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning delivery and evaluation of health programs
  • Well-developed understanding of services delivery in a community setting
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team to achieve outcomes and high performance

Desirable Criteria

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are highly encouraged to apply
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit sector and community settings.
