Job Summary

Position Summary

The Opportunity: Skagit Valley College (SVC) is seeking a Dual Credit Advisor and Recruiter to support and expand access to college pathways for high school students. This position plays a key role in promoting college-going culture and facilitating the recruitment enrollment and success of dual credit high school students in Running Start College in the High School and CTE Dual Credit programs. Responsible for proactive individualized involvement in driving students success this position will contribute to student retention and completion strategies in collaboration with the student their family and high school partners.

The Dual Credit Advisor and Recruiter delivers outreach recruitment advising and retention activities to support the colleges strategic goal of increasing enrollment and success in dual credit programs with a focus on Running Start. Primary duties include facilitating program information sessions college application sessions supporting students through the enrollment process and general advising. This position also provides ongoing retention support each quarter to ensure students maintain their status as dual-credit students at Skagit Valley College.

This position is a 100% full-time exempt position. The position may work from either the Mount Vernon or Whidbey Island campus and includes regular travel to area high schools SVC sites (such as San Juan) and community events. The role requires a flexible schedule including evenings weekends and occasional split shifts with opportunities for flex time.

This role requires regular communication with students and families who speak Spanish; bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is essential.

Duties and Responsibilities

Community Engagement

  • Represent Skagit Valley College (SVC) at college and community fairs and outreach events;
  • Attend meetings and events that promote SVC Dual Credit programs to prospective students families high school partners and community organizations;
  • Communicate critical deadlines enrollment processes and program updates to high school partners students and families;
  • Collaborate with Counseling & Navigation Financial Aid and Enrollment Services to provide coordinated support for dual credit students.

Outreach and Recruitment
  • Monitor dual credit inbox and respond to inquiries;
  • Act as a first point of contact to facilitate the recruitment and enrollment of dual credit students;
  • Plan and implement information sessions application sessions classroom/school visits campus events and other activities focused on dual credit students and their families;
  • Coordinate and deliver campus tours for prospective dual credit students.
Running Start Admissions and Course Registration
  • Ensure compliance with Running Start enrollment policies including collecting and maintaining Running Start Enrollment Verification Forms (RSEVFs);
  • Monitor quarterly enrollment to ensure all students submit the required RSVEF enter data in ctcLink and TargetX and remove registration holds;
  • Deploy quarterly communications to Running Start students prior to open registration periods;
  • Communicate dates and changes to the Running Start enrollment process to high school and college stakeholders.

Advising and Student Support
  • Participate in New Student Registration as assigned;
  • Provide general advising to prospective and current dual credit students regarding academic options program requirements and transition to college;
  • Support students in understanding placement course options impacts of academic decisions and how to maximize dual credit options;
  • Refer students to appropriate support including tutoring financial aid disability access services career exploration and other available resources;
  • Conduct proactive outreach to support students academic progress and program completion.

Communications and Marketing
  • Send students multi-channel communications including e-mail and SMS text using TargetX to support recruitment enrollment and engagement in dual credit programs;
  • Participate in targeted marketing campaigns and lead generation activities aimed at increasing participation in dual credit programs;
  • Review and provide recommended updates for the Dual Credit website to ensure information is current.

Other Special Projects and Duties
  • Perform other special projects and related duties as assigned;

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge and/or understanding of:
  • State and national accreditation requirements for dual credit programs including FERPA;
  • Specific issues students from non-dominant populations face when entering dual credit programs and/or college;
  • Ability to learn and support college admission advising registration and financial aid policies and processes;
  • Understanding of community resources for food housing funding and assessment;
  • Knowledge of educational programs including Basic Skills developmental education and academic and professional/technical certificates and degrees;
  • Skagit Valley College education and career pathways;
  • State and federal laws and accreditation requirements affecting Skagit Valley College and dual credit programs including NACEP standards for College in the High School.
Skills in:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint or related programs;

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent education or higher in Social Work Counseling Education or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position;
  • Experience working with populations representing diverse backgrounds life experiences and abilities;
  • Strong oral and written bilingual/multi-lingual communication skills in Spanish and English;
  • Demonstrated commitment to promote equitable access and educational achievement of diverse students.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex schedules budgets and departmental initiatives;
  • Experience working in position(s) demonstrating high-level administrative support skills including the ability to take responsibility display initiative and make independent decisions;
  • In-depth computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint); proficiency in the use of other office equipment and software;
  • Experience working in a diverse population;
  • Excellent writing skills and organizational skills.
