General Description

The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Airport Operations Agent. The Airport Operations Agent position is required 24 hours per day 7 days a week. This position will serve primarily in the Landside/Terminals functional area of the Airport Operations Division. However it may also include opportunities to work in other functional areas of the Airport Operations Division. As an Airport Operations Agent you will be responsible for supporting the overall functions of the airport with duties to include but not limited to assisting with various types of emergency responses responding to incidents and accidents and preparing related reports ensuring that documentation is both accurate and detailed assisting customers by answering questions and providing information and guidance/direction managing and directing large crowds of people enforcing Airport Rules and Regulations and Broward County Code of Ordinances monitoring parking and curbside operations performing security inspections and security related tasks and providing overall customer service to both internal and external customers.

Performs specialized independent operations work involving a considerable amount of public contact in the dynamic environment of the Countys Aviation Department.

Works under general supervision independently developing work methods and sequences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires two (2) years of college level course work in airport management aeronautical science or closely related field.
(One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)

Requires one (1) year experience in airport operations or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Must possess a valid Florida drivers license during employment and maintain authority to drive on County business.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge and Customs Seal.

Preferences
  • Associate Degree in Aviation Management or related field.
  • Two (2) years experience in airport operations or related field.

Additional Information

Per the Code of Federal Regulations Title 49 Part 1542 all airport employees must undergo a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment (STA) in order to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)

SCOPE OF WORK

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Monitors and assists in the coordination of proper operation of the airport operational areas to ensure compliance with established rules regulations policies and procedures and contractual tenant leasehold requirements. Issues notices of violations and/or citations for non-compliance with airport rules and regulations as well as Chapter 2 8 ½ and 22 ½ of the Broward County Code of Ordinances.

Assists with ensuring the proper control of persons and vehicles in restricted access areas of the airport.

Monitors all automated equipment systems for fire security and maintenance alarms making appropriate notifications when necessary.

Inspects and monitors airport equipment and facilities for housekeeping aesthetics safety security and general conditions taking appropriate action when necessary to rectify unsuitable conditions.

Provides information direction and assistance regarding the use of airport facilities and airport tenants and users.

Conducts and/or coordinates escorts and tours within both public and secured airport areas.

Monitors vehicle operations for compliance with the Airfield Driving Program and Ground Transportation Program and ensures proper control of persons and vehicles in restricted access areas of the airport.

Collects records and compiles information for statistical data on routine and emergency airport conditions relating to safety and security as well as various operational activities.

Collects records and disseminates information on airport operational conditions status of construction in progress and other pertinent airport activities.

Monitors assists in and reports on the control of all aspects of vehicular traffic parking operations public and all other forms of intermodal transportation.

Assists in the preparation and operation of the Emergency Operations Center and Airport Family Room in the event of airport emergencies.

Produces specialized computer-generated reports for operational audit and risk management/insurance purposes.

Operates and maintains (as operator) County-owned vehicles including 4-wheel drive in an airport environment including responding to emergency situations.

Ability to drive on the movement and non-movement areas of the airfield.

Performs related work as required.


Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Monitors responds and assists airport operations to ensure proper functionality of the airport and to enable a safe and secure environment for expeditious transition of public movement; provides customer service and performs administrative tasks including but not limited to answering phone calls completing paperwork and compiling statistical reports email correspondence accident and incident reporting/recording managing lost and found etc.

Maintains surveillance to ensure security system is operational and monitors security system activities for discrepancies; monitors all automated equipment systems for fire security and maintenance alarms making appropriate notifications when necessary.

Notifies airport staff of important operational matters by way of telephone radio and paging systems; maintains awareness of aviation security compliance conditions and responds within appropriate guidelines to any non-compliance issues; initiates and coordinates airport response and notification of essential local state and federal agencies to respond to emergencies.

Provides airport tenants and users with operational conditions information directions and assistance while ensuring safe secure and expeditious movement of the traveling public.

Monitors and assists in the coordination of aviation security issues to ensure compliance with established rules regulations policies and procedures and contractual tenant leasehold requirements.

Inspects and monitors airport equipment and facilities for security conditions; taking appropriate action when necessary to rectify unsuitable conditions; monitors airport operational conditions and status of automated systems; issues Notice of Violations or Citations as appropriate for non-compliance with regulations.

Collects records and compiles information for statistical data on routine and emergency airport conditions relating to safety and security.

Completes staff training and professional development.

Operates and maintains (as operator) county-owned vehicles including 4-wheel drive in an airport environment including responding to emergency situations.
