Position Summary: 1:1 Arts Mentors are responsible for working with youth mentees on a 1 on basis using an arts-focused strength-based approach. The mentor will work with the mentee to develop a set goals to help them improve their social and emotional development as well as arts practice. This is a community based position where mentors meet mentees where they are and expose them to new activities and opportunities. This is a 10 hour per month commitment up to 50 hours depending on placement(s).

Collaborates with: Programming Team Director of Operations

Key Responsibilities:
The mentors role is to support their mentees by:
Empowering them to resolve current issues and to develop coping strategies for the future
Provide a model for a healthy trusting relationship through clear communication and setting appropriate boundaries
Acknowledging strengths talents/gifts and encouraging them to find ways to use them
On occasion engage in activities outside of the home to help expose youth to new opportunities and experiences.
Monthly supervision and professional development with the Mentor Coordinator and team
Maintain strict confidentiality of all participants and case activity
Clear communication with the Guardian(s) Caseworker and Mentor Coordinator
Thorough and descriptive weekly notes outlining youth development and plan progress
Seek out available developmental opportunities available in your region including but not limited to arts events workshops and education
Submit weekly notes to monitor progress and participation of your mentee based on program goals set between you youth mentee and the youths care team
Bilingual or multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply but not required
Additional Requirements:
Independent Contractor Agreement: Must be signed upon acceptance.
References:
Three professional references required including at least one from a previous position working with children.
Transportation:
Must have reliable transportation to and from mentees home or agreed upon third-party location.
Certifications:
Valid CPR & First Aid certification.
Proof of educational background and professional certifications (if applicable).
Health Clearance:
A letter from a physician confirming the candidate is in good health free from communicable diseases (including TB).
Background Check:
Must provide a current background check from CJIS (including state federal and childcare clearance).
