Optotune is growing internationally active optics company with offices in Switzerland and Slovakia. We design manufacture and market cutting-edge adaptive optical elements for both industrial and consumer applications.
Category Manager at Optotune is responsible for the strategic management of the electronic components PCB and PCBA category the development of a robust supplier network and the optimization of BOM costs for both serial production and new projects (NPI). The role has a significant impact on component availability production continuity project costs and overall technological competitiveness.
Tasks
- Conduct ongoing market intelligence and monitor industry trends in electronics including semiconductors PCBs sensors and other components
- Develop and implement category sourcing strategies for electronic components based on business needs market trends and supplier capabilities
- Conduct spend and risk analysis of all suppliers and parts of the assigned categories (AX). Identify plan and implement purchasing strategy with cost reduction and risk mitigation targets
- Implementing effective sourcing strategies in line with business strategy ensuring that suppliers can meet current and future business requirements and focus on constant improvement of value chain to reduce part cost keep inventory
- Levels low shorten lead time and optimize logistic processes considering total cost of ownership
- Responsible for supplier evaluation qualification development price and frame agreement negotiations
- Choosing appropriate suppliers (focusing on quality delivery cost and sustainability) in accordance with company policies and conduct annual supplier performance reviews/audits
- Represent Supply Management in product development projects review specifications (DTC analysis) allocate new parts to leveraged suppliers along the purchasing strategy
- Responsible of part release of respective category including necessary documentation and master data mgmt. and handover to operational procurement
- Primary contact for project managers/RnD for technical/manufacturing and supplier related questions as well as for operational procurement & QA for strategic and supplier quality related issues (key communication contact between supplier and company)
- Responsible for relocation of parts until first article inspection passed and transfer to buyer organization. Initiate and handling of design modification request with design
- Contributing to and participating in setting and implementing budget and targets within the framework and ensuring that sourcing performance targets are achieved
Requirements
- University degree preferably in economics or a technical field education in electrical engineering or experience in electronics development is advantage
- 57 years of experience in electronic component procurement PCBA manufacturing R&D/electronics engineering or in an EMS/OEM environment; electrical engineering background or development experience is a plus
- Advanced knowledge of electronic components and understanding of PCBA processes
- Ability to read technical documentation datasheets and schematics
- Knowledge of the component lifecycle (Active / NRND / EOL)
- Understanding of the electronics market and current industry trends
- Experience in negotiating with suppliers
- Excellent analytical and commercial skills
- Awareness of quality standards (ISO 9001)
- Experience with component inventory planning
- Understanding of BOM cost breakdown and identifying cost-saving opportunities
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Proficiency in MS Excel ERP systems and data analytics
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Communication in English language is a must
