Unit Overview
Key Responsibilities
Program Vision Compliance & Oversight
- Collaborate with the Program Director to execute the programs vision and educational goals.
- Ensure ongoing ACGME compliance; assist with documentation and reporting.
Faculty Development
- Supervise and support the growth and development of core faculty.
- Conduct quarterly faculty check-ins and evaluations.
- Observe teaching rounds and provide real-time feedback.
- Lead and attend faculty development workshops and conferences.
Resident Mentorship & Development
- Oversee and mentor an assigned resident cohort.
- Conduct quarterly check-ins and contribute to performance improvement plans.
- Participate in onboarding bootcamps and maintain weekly GME office hours at Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional.
- Support remediation and structured development plans.
- Supervise the assigned chief resident and assume chief duties when needed (e.g. during night float ICU nights PTO or sick leave).
- Actively participate in resident wellness initiatives program events graduation and residency fairs to foster program culture.
Educational Leadership
- Deliver didactic lectures including noon conferences and morning reports.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and resident scholarly activity.
- Serve on key committees such as the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC).
- Support the programs academic culture by attending M&M conferences Practicing Excellence sessions and Grand Rounds (in-person preferred; remote attendance available).
- Mentor residents in M&M case presentations sharing the educational leadership responsibilities with the Program Director.
Resident Recruitment
- Participate fully in the recruitment process: interviewing applicants reviewing files and attending the Rank List Meeting.
Short Description
The Associate Program Director (APD) for the Internal Medicine Residency Program supports the Program Director in developing program guidelines managing the application process and overseeing various aspects of the residency. The APD ensures compliance with ACGME accreditation standards and contributes to the design and delivery of a high-quality educational experience for residents.
This leadership role blends clinical teaching mentorship and administrative oversight to further the programs mission.
License/Certification Requirements
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice (inpatient and/or outpatient)
- Passion for graduate medical education and mentorship
- Strong interpersonal organizational and communication skills
- Prior teaching or leadership experience preferred
Special Requirements
- Must provide clinical services at Cooper University Hospital at Cape Regional. (If currently based at another site a transition to Cape Regional will be required.
- Must hold or be eligible for a faculty appointment at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU). Assistance will be provided during onboarding if needed.
