Clinical Assistant Professor, Counseling

Salary/Position Classification

• $65000-$80000 9-month contract Exempt
• 40 hours per week
• This position will work onsite at UND Grand Forks ND campus

Purpose of Position

The department of Education Health and Behavior Studies at the University of North Dakota is seeking a Clinical Assistant Professor of Counseling. This is a 9-month non-tenure track position contingent on availability of funding.

The Counseling Programs are housed in the Department of Education Health and Behavior Studies (EHBS) in the College of Education and Human Development (EHD) at UND. The Counseling programs include an APA accredited Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counseling Psychology and an APA accredited Master of Arts (M.A.) in Counseling (on- campus and online versions of the program available; the online program is currently pursuing MPCAC accreditation).

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will receive a contract with an approximate distribution of 70- 80% teaching 10% advising and supervision and 10-20% service effort. Responsibilities for this position include:

• Teaching graduate courses predominantly on-campus in the Counseling masters program and the Counseling Psychology doctoral program with potential to teach one course a year online.
• Advising and mentoring graduate students.
• Serving on masters scholarly or independent research project committees and doctoral dissertation committees participating in graduate admissions and participating in comprehensive exam processes
• Serving the program department college university community and the profession as needed.

Required Competencies

• Skills in graduate level teaching.
• Skills in supervision of clinical work (e.g. teaching counseling internship and counseling practicum).
• Skills related to graduate level academic advising.
• Strong organization skills and conscientiousness; ability to successfully navigate a workload comprised of teaching/supervision advising and other service-related tasks;
• Strong professionalism and interpersonal skills and ability to sensitively navigate issues of disagreement which may arise with students/supervisees;

• Strong awareness of counseling ethical and legal obligations and the ability to identify and manage instances of real or potential ethical dilemmas or infractions in supervising clinical work.
• Strong ability to utilize or learn relevant technology

Minimum Requirements

• Completed PhD or ABD by August 15 2026 in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology or a closely related field.
• Licensed or licensed eligible psychologist in North Dakota.
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of PhD in Counseling Psychology or related fields by August 15 2026.
• Experience or skills in providing clinical supervision.
• Experience or skills in advising or working with graduate students.
• Experience teaching or lecturing in graduate level counseling courses.
• Experience with ethical and legal practices in counseling.
• Experience with multiculturally informed teaching supervision and advising practices.
