Working under minimal supervision a Metal Lab Tech performs all levels of metallurgical testing. The tech will also demonstrate an advanced ability to interpret industry specifications such as raw material certifications heat treat and coating specifications. Familiar with hydrogen and grain size testing. 2-5 years of experience.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
- Perform laboratory tests: tensile shear and fatigue stress durability stress rupture torque hardness hydrogen determination static alignment and ductility hardness testing.
- Macro and micro metallurgical preparation and examination.
- Prepare samples and associated data cards for orders to be tested.
Required Skills:
- The ability to read and write English.
- An introductory competence in shop math such as working with fractions and decimals.
- Proficient in the safe operation of a variety of laboratory test equipment.
- Basic blueprint reading competencies.
- Good organization skills.
- The ability to understand standard procedures.
- The ability to interpret technical test requirements from customer blueprints and procurement specifications.
Required Experience:
Level of Education:
- GED or High School diploma preferred but not required.
