About The Role

The Service Manager is responsible for leading the Metro Sydney Specialist Youth Homelessness Services at Mackillop Family Services. This position will oversee the day to day operations ensuring the delivery of safe and trauma informed care for young people and their families. This role includes embedding the Sanctuary Model across programs maintaining compliance with legislation and organisational standards and driving quality outcomes.

The Service Manager builds and supports a high performing team fosters collaborative relationships within the sector and contributes to strategic planning to improve services and empower young people to engage in education employment and community life.

About You

You are an experienced leader with a passion for supporting vulnerable young people. You thrive in dynamic environments and bring strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills and has a deep understanding of trauma informed care and child protection frameworks.

This is a non ongoing full time opportunity covering an extended leave based in Blacktown NSW and reporting to the Coordinator Child Youth and Families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that accommodation services provide a safe nonviolent and nurturing home like environment (both inside and outside) that supports the physical and emotional safety each young person.
  • Support the SHS team to develop strategies and plans for individual young people that address presenting issues facilitate growth and change through the development of new skills and perspectives and increase engagement employment training and community activities.
  • Review individual case plans to ensure that they meet the emotional social and behavioural needs of young people.
  • Ensure that services are sensitive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD young people and their families;
  • In consultation with the Coordinator Youth & Family Programs lead the intake and assessment process make decisions about placements and allocate cases to staff in accordance with their skills experience and capacity.
  • Ensure that individual and program targets are met and income and expenditure is within the agreed budget and comply with MacKillops reporting requirements;


Key Selection Criteria

  • To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Qualifications in youth work community services management or relevant field;
  • Demonstrated experience in providing trauma-informed programs and interventions to vulnerable young people and their families;
  • Understanding of the impacts of homelessness and trauma on young people and their families;
  • Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues with an understanding of statutory child protection frameworks;
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team;
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan organise and prioritise work and work to tight deadlines under pressure;

You must have a:

  • Valid and current Drivers Licence;
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (paid for by MacKillop);
  • Valid Employee Working with Children Check;
