The Environmental Health and Safety office seeks an Occupational Safety Coordinator. This position will improve the overall health and safety within shop and work areas by conducting program reviews/audits/inspections and developing and administering programs that promote general safety and health and assure regulatory compliance. Improve injury/illness prevention through investigation/root cause analysis and promote best safety practices. Correct identified deficiencies through ongoing program reviews and audits/inspections. Assist with the industrial hygiene program by testing local exhaust ventilation systems performing respirator fit tests and assisting with noise and chemical exposure monitoring.

Qualifications:
Education or Equivalency Required:
A Bachelors degree in occupational safety industrial hygiene or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Required Qualifications:
Working level proficiency of occupational safety guidelines principles and practices.
Able to assess worksite conditions equipment and machinery to gauge if they are in safe working order and make recommendations.
Work with supervisors to ensure injury incident investigations are completed and that good corrective actions are in place to prevent the issues from happening again.
High level proficiency processing information accurately and with attention to detail.
Proficiency with tools techniques and processes for gathering and reporting data in a department or division. Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and mobile devices for data recording and retrieval.
Ability to effectively transmit receive and accurately interpret ideas information and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Possession of a valid state or commercial drivers license and the ability to meet University Fleet Safety Standards.
Highly Desirable Qualifications:
Work experience implementing a safety program and procedures.
Technical training covering OSHA NFPA or related workplace regulations guidelines and standards.
Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge of higher education policies procedures and regulations.
Practical experience (typically 1-3 years) with occupational or environmental health and safety issues e.g. conducting assessments and/or audits.
