Job Summary

Northern or Southern Minnesota Indigenous Organizer


The MN350 Indigenous Organizer job position involves building and maintaining relationships with

Indigenous communities facilitating communication between communities and MN350 and developing

initiatives to support community empowerment sustainability and well-being.


Key Individual responsibilities often include:

Build capacity/power to win

Organizing community engagement

Building volunteer teams

Train and develop volunteer organizers in the understanding of and the arts and skills of building

power by building teams including understanding how relationships and the ability to build them

are central to building power.

Developing and implementing programs

Lead a volunteer team into actions and events that make up a campaign

Completing a minimum of 5 1-1 conversations every week

Organize gatherings to bring awareness to the damages affecting Native

communities around Line 3 including increased sexual assaults domestic violence

MMIR and the impacts on the Native community when the environment is under attack

and treaty rights are violated.

Co-managing communications with the Communication staff and

Ensuring that organizational practices align with Indigenous perspectives and protocols.


Core responsibilities

Relationship building: Cultivate and maintain strong trust-based relationships with Indigenous

communities leaders and organizations.

Lead and Develop Volunteer leaders and organizers on their action team who are doing both

straight-issue-based and geographically and culturally based organizing through MN350 and

MN350 Action.


Communication and coordination: Act as a liaison to facilitate respectful and effective

communication between community members and an organizations staff. This can involve

organizing meetings consultations and cultural awareness sessions.

Engage with the Organizing Director/Executive Director and volunteer leaders in discerning

the campaign that they and their team will engage in as aligned with MN350s commitment

to climate justice and in concert with the passions and drive of those on their teams.


Program development: Develop and implement programs and initiatives in collaboration with

communities. These might focus on areas such as:

o Sulfide Mining

o AI

o Land Back

o Missing Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives (MMIR)


Project support: Support Indigenous voices and perspectives in projects policies and strategies.

This may involve advising on communications related to engagement activities and providing

guidance on how to work effectively with Indigenous governments and communities.

Administrative tasks: Prepare monthly and year-end reports work plans briefing notes

presentations and meeting minutes. Maintain engagement databases and assist with other

administrative tasks as needed.


Cultural competency: Work to ensure internal staff understand and respect Indigenous cultures

and protocols. This may include developing or facilitating Indigenous awareness training.


KEY SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES AS MEMBER OF THE STAFF: Leadership Development & Culture:

Model organizational embodiment of shared values principles and practices Community

Stakeholder and Public Relations: Serve as MN350s spokespeople and ambassadors as well as act

as liaison to leadership regarding the organization Fundraising: Ability to ask for money as well as

support stewardship of donors through thank you calls as requested by staff leadership Strategic

Direction: Engage in give feedback and collaboratively shape leadership structures and fundraising

strategies to sustain the organization as requested by staff leadership
