The Principal Software Engineer Payments serves as a strategic technical leader driving the design architecture and scalability of Turos global payment systems. This role blends deep technical expertise with strong cross-functional influence partnering closely with product accounting finance and legal teams to ensure compliance accuracy and operational excellence across all payment flows. The ideal candidate is an expert in building resilient secure and high-volume payment platforms capable of guiding architectural decisions and mentoring senior engineers to deliver long-term solutions. Learn more about our Engineering team here: you will do: Breaks down complex projects and independently designs and implements successful long-term solutions. Evaluates technical designs for high-impact projects and advises teams to improve execution. Collaborates across teams and disciplines to solve problems and resolve technical debates. Stays aware of changes to the company to anticipate and prevent obstacles from hindering team performance. Mentors other senior and staff engineers and partners with managers on strategy collaboration influence execution and other aspects of leadership. Participates in hiring; partnering with recruiters to align on candidate profiles guiding and filling open engineering positions to improve efficiency in hiring pipelines. Expected to possess deep technical domain knowledge of Turo including DevOps adoption to understand Turos infrastructure system architecture and build and deployment environments such that they can address critical issues in a timely fashion. Bachelors degree and a combination of 10 years of relevant industry or academic experience. The SF base salary target range for this full-time position is $238000-$297000 equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role level and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in San Francisco CA. Within the range individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills experience and relevant education or training.
