Job Summary

Definition

Definition: Under general supervision of the Communications & Marketing Manager this position plans organizes directs and evaluates internal and external communication efforts for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC). The role supports communication strategies and projects in coordination with Community Relations Leadership and assists with supervising planning and assigning activities to achieve program goals and objectives. This position develops and manages content for social media platforms SRPMIC websites email and text message communications and other digital channels. Responsibilities include maintaining interactive applications supporting new digital technologies and ensuring consistent visual design. The position also writes and edits communication materials maintains digital content standards and tracks analytics for reporting and continuous improvement. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.

Distinguishing Features: The Community Relations Specialist (Comm & Mkt) is distinguished from the Community Relations Specialist (Multimedia) by emphasis on developing a comprehensive communication plan for internal communications to community members and government employees and external communications via overseeing social media platforms email and text messaging programs and website management.

Examples of Tasks

1. Communication: Plans organizes directs and evaluates communication functions.

  • Develops coordinates and communicate messaging to convey and engage the public
  • Assist in utilizing communication outlets and manage internal and external communication for SRPMIC
  • Support and evaluate results of communication campaigns with key staff
  • Assist in the branding marketing and advertising of campaigns to meet objectives
  • Develops all written and visual content for email and text message marketing to support outreach objectives.
  • Plans schedules and deploys email and SMS communications to increase community engagement and participation.
  • Monitors tracks and reports on campaign analytics including sign-ups open rates click-through rates and conversions.
  • Uses engagement data to refine messaging strategies and improve audience segmentation and campaign performance over time.
  • Ensures all email and text message content aligns with SRPMIC brand standards communication priorities and cultural sensitivity.
2. Social Media:
  • Provides administrative oversight research verification reporting/interviewing content writing for social media profile/website.
  • Collects data through analytics and statistics on social media platforms for reporting.
  • Develop manage and oversee social media content digital photography graphics and texts.
  • Plans schedules monitors and maintains the social media platforms.
  • Monitor trends in social media best practices tools applications creative management and technologies.
  • Use of social media marketing tools.
  • Builds audiences through social media for business use and communication strategies.
  • Promote community engagement and brand awareness.
  • Review and approve content daily.
  • Research opportunities for new social marketing platforms.
  • Develop and deliver social media optimization (SMO).
  • Writes high quality content including captions creative messaging interactive messaging and short stories following social media standards.
  • Researches content for accuracy and relevance.
  • Develop photo story boards and galleries.
  • Develop and design graphics for message postings.
  • Edits and formats graphic modifications and response to postings when launched.
  • Develop message content through digital video equipment and software.
  • Write script produce and edit video content messaging.
  • Use of a drone and recording device with a gimbal for digital video and digital photography.
  • Deliver real-time messaging and provides updates on social media on notices and announcements including emergency notifications incidents traffic road closure construction Community events and activities.
3.Website Management:
  • Oversee all website changes including minor updates and the design and development of new webpages in accordance with branding accessibility and usability standards.
  • Maintains overall website structure ensuring accurate and up-to-date content consistent formatting and alignment with organizational messaging.
  • Monitors website performance metrics (traffic engagement SEO) and implements improvements to enhance user experience and search visibility.
  • Coordinates with IT or external web developers for advanced technical needs hosting or infrastructure support.
  • Implements SEO best practices to improve search rankings and organic traffic.
  • Conducts regular content audits and recommends design or structural improvements to enhance usability and engagement.
  • Develops and maintains website style guides and standards to ensure brand consistency across all pages.
  • Reviews and approves events and announcements submitted to the website by government employees/departments.
  • Responds to COM-postings emails to request event/announcement be submitted to website if needed.
4. Miscellaneous:
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned by the Communications & Marketing Manager and/or Community Relations Director
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Other Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of the history culture customs and traditions of the SRPMIC
  • Knowledge of audio-visual sound systems and other related equipment
  • Knowledge of design photography videography creativity and positioning
  • Knowledge and proficient in social media platforms (Facebook YouTube Twitter Instagram Vimeo etc.) and the deployment of the applications
  • Knowledge of Photoshop Final Cut Pro Premiere Pro or other media editing software
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite software programs
  • Knowledge of PC or Mac OS proficiency required
  • Knowledge of the English language and rules of grammar
  • Knowledge of various writing styles such as Associated Press APA etc.
  • Knowledge of website advertising sales best practices
  • Knowledge of content marketing/online marketing strategies trends tools and channels
  • Knowledge of interactive media tools and technologies

  • Skill in public speaking

  • Skill writing content for short stories scripts photo captions headings news stories feature stories scripts and other materials
  • Skill in project management organization and strategic planning
  • Skill managing social media platforms leveraging analytics tools and writing/editing content.

  • Ability to write accurate news copy under pressure and consistently meet deadline requirements.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with highly sensitive data

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelors Degree in Communications Public Relations Media Relations Advertising Marketing or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years experience in Marketing and Communications focused field.
  • Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered.
  • Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position will be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19 Underfill

Special Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Drivers License
  • May be required to work evenings weekends and holidays
  • May be required to stand or walk for extended periods be exposed to severe weather conditions including heat and cold as well as lift and carry special (heavy) equipment or other objects up to 50 lbs.
