Job Description
The Library Assistant provides comprehensive support in the day-to-day operations of the Health Sciences Library. This position performs a variety of general library duties including article delivery interlibrary loan processing basic reference assistance and database searching. The Library Assistant works independently maintains a welcoming and organized environment and can keep the library open when the Librarian is unavailable.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide frontline library support including assisting patrons with literature searches electronic troubleshooting and locating materials.
Process article delivery and interlibrary loan requests in a timely and accurate manner.
Offer phone Teams and in-person reference services using appropriate medical and health sciences resources.
Promote library resources and services by creating outreach materials and presenting at orientations or outreach events.
Collect and analyze usage statistics to make recommendations for collection development and library advocacy.
Create monthly and annual reports for library stakeholders.
Design and implement user surveys.
Organize and maintain chaplains library book collection.
Update and maintain content on the library website and in off-site interlibrary loan platforms as directed.
Monitor library spaces to ensure they remain clean safe and well-organized.
Stay current with trends tools and best practices in medical and health sciences librarianship.
Assist with scanning projects as necessary.
Perform other library tasks as assigned to support overall operations.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience working in a medical academic or special library environment.
Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or Master of Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited program preferred.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
Familiarity with interlibrary loan platforms (Docline OCLC) medical databases journals books and evidence-based information resources.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated customer service skills and a commitment to supporting the information needs of health sciences patrons
