The Subsea Pipeline Engineer is responsible for the engineering design verification installation planning and operational assurance of subsea pipelines in shallow-water environments. The role ensures technical integrity compliance with project specifications safe installation and interface coordination with structures subsea production equipment and offshore construction teams.
General Description of Role and Responsibilities:
Engineering Design & Technical Review
- Perform and review design calculations for pipeline wall thickness on-bottom stability free-span assessment corrosion protection and burial requirements.
- Review pipeline routing tie-in configurations expansion control and pipeline crossing designs.
- Conduct design verification and ensure compliance with DNV-ST-F101 API ISO and project-specific standards.
- Review pipeline materials selection coating systems and cathodic protection principles.
Shallow-Water Installation Engineering
- Prepare and review installation procedures for pipe laying (S-lay/barge) shore approach trenching jetting and burial.
- Evaluate environmental conditions and their impact on installation.
- Interface with marine operations teams for vessel readiness and operational limits.
Interface & Coordination
- Coordinate with subsea structures riser teams and topsides engineering.
- Provide technical clarification to fabrication and installation contractors.
- Participate in HAZID HAZOP and constructability reviews.
Offshore Support
- Conduct offshore surveys route verification and as-built data review.
- Provide engineering support during laying trenching repairs and pre-commissioning.
- Prepare daily offshore engineering reports.
Documentation & Deliverables
- Develop design reports specifications data sheets and method statements.
- Review drawings: P&IDs alignment sheets isometrics spools.
- Handle technical queries and contractor documentation.
Project Management & QA/QC
- Monitor contractor progress and quality.
- Participate in FAT SIT and material inspection.
- Ensure safety and environmental compliance.
Key Competencies
- Strong knowledge of subsea pipeline design and DNV/ISO standards.
- Understanding of shallow-water installation challenges.
- Ability to review FE modeling (OrcaFlex PipeLay Caesar II).
- Strong interface management and offshore experience.
Qualifications Experience Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor Degree BSc from an accredited university.
- Work experience of eight (12) years after earning degree in same field .
- Excellent spoken and written English including proven ability to write reports.
