Copper Quail Global is seeking an experienced Auto Electrician for Drill Rigs & Mobile Fleet (Supervisor level) to support a major mining operation in Sierra Leone. This is a senior technical and supervisory role overseeing electrical maintenance troubleshooting and optimisation of heavy mobile equipment (HME) including drill rigs dozers ADTs and other critical mobile machinery.

This opportunity suits a highly skilled auto electrician with strong leadership experience deep HME electrical diagnostics expertise and the ability to work in challenging environments while developing local teams.


Position Summary

Designation: Auto Electrician Drill Rig & Mobile Fleet Supervisor
Department: Engineering & Maintenance
Reports to: Engineering & Maintenance Superintendent / HOD
Location: Sierra Leone (accommodation provided on-site)

The role is responsible for supervising a team of auto electricians managing electrical repairs and diagnostics across the mobile fleet and ensuring that all electrical systems perform safely efficiently and in line with OEM standards. The Supervisor will also play a central role in training local technicians and supporting operational readiness.


Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and coordinate a team of auto electricians ensuring clear task allocation and productivity.

  • Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs within the team.

  • Build a positive safety-driven team culture while maintaining effective workflow.

  • Implement skills-transfer initiatives for junior and local staff.

Operational Planning & Oversight

  • Plan and schedule daily workloads for the mobile fleet electrical maintenance team.

  • Ensure maintenance and repairs are completed within budget and operational timelines.

  • Oversee quality control of all electrical work in accordance with OEM standards.

  • Support the Superintendent as 2IC for electrical maintenance functions.

Technical Expertise & Diagnostics

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical faults across HME and drill rigs.

  • Interpret electrical diagrams schematics and technical documentation.

  • Lead root-cause analysis for repetitive or high-impact equipment failures.

  • Stay updated on automotive electrical systems HME technology and emerging industry trends.

  • Critical subject matter expert (SME) for high-level electrical problem-solving.

Equipment & OEM Focus

Experience with:

  • Caterpillar HME: ADT trucks dozers excavators

  • Epiroc Drill Rigs D65 series

  • Electrical diagnostics harness repairs system rebooting and component replacement.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety standards and ensure statutory compliance across all electrical work.

  • Conduct toolbox talks safety briefings and electrical hazard awareness training.

  • Maintain an organised safe working environment and ensure tool/equipment readiness.

  • Promote a proactive safety culture within the engineering department.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections repairs maintenance actions and preventative schedules.

  • Prepare reports for equipment status team performance and safety incidents.

  • Assist with spare parts inventory planning and usage tracking.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Coordinate with maintenance operations and planning teams to schedule work efficiently.

  • Provide updates to management on maintenance progress risks and resourcing needs.

  • Liaise with vendors and suppliers for electrical components and technical support.


What We Are Looking For

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in electrical/automotive engineering preferred.

  • Specialized training in automotive electrical systems is advantageous.

  • 10 years experience as an auto electrician working on heavy mobile equipment.

  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in mining or heavy industrial sectors.

  • Previous expat or remote-site experience is an asset.

  • Strong exposure to Caterpillar equipment and Epiroc D65 drill rigs.

Technical Competencies

  • Expert-level electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical electrical drawings and harness layouts.

  • Deep understanding of HME electrical systems CANBUS and component calibration.

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities under pressure.

  • Valid drivers licence.

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • High resilience and adaptability in challenging site conditions.


Role Deliverables

  • Lead a team of 3 auto electricians.

  • Serve as deputy to the Superintendent (2IC).

  • Ensure production-support readiness and rapid electrical fault resolution.

  • Maintain uptime and minimise machine stoppages.

  • Enhance local team capability through training and supervision.

  • On-call availability for critical equipment breakdowns.
