DescriptionThe Registered Cardiovascular Sonographer is responsible for providing exceptional patient care. This individual will help lead the performance of diagnostic tests of the cardiovascular systems on patients and to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and blood vessel disorders. Participates in the non-invasive cardiovascular procedures.
Responsibilities- Demonstrates competency in the techniques and range of equipment used in current medical practice for the diagnosis treatment and care of patients.
- Performs echocardiogram exercise stress echocardiogram testing and Dobutamine stress echocardiogram testing and/or vascular ultrasound exams and vascular stress testing (PVR) per credentialing to aid in diagnosis of the cardiovascular system.Responsibilities may include to train and conduct performance of fetal echocardiograms in pediatric setting.
- If in a pediatric setting may perform transthoracic echocardiogram examinations in pediatric and congenital cardiac patients from neonatal to adult age range.
- Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical pathological and diagnostic images. Applies knowledge of anatomy physiology positioning and imaging techniques to optimize the quality of ultrasound images.
- Maintains required departmental records. Maintains day-to-day patient and study logs data acquisition and records statistical data (procedure volumes/interpretation volumes) as applicable.
- Assures that equipment is maintained according to manufacturers specifications.
- Cleans and maintains ultrasound equipment and scan rooms.
- Reports any malfunctions as they occur per hospital policy.
- Participates in department process improvement projects.
- Prepares preliminary interpretation and report for Attending Cardiologists review. For critical results/findings notifies provider per institutional policy
- Maintains infection control policy and procedures.
- Consults with cardiologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements.
- Assists in maintenance of supply inventory and requests necessary supplies for test area.
- Completes continuing education to enhance professional growth and maintain credentials.
- Assists students and fellows learning in lab and may assist in the evaluation of students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound Program the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) or an unaccredited Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound Program with a minimum of 1-year full-time cardiovascular ultrasound experience fulfilling requirement to sit for Registry.
- 0-2 years minimum of experience
- Active ARDMS (RDCS/RVT) or CCI (RVS/RCS) status required.
- Heartsaver Certification from American Heart Association or BLS (Basic Life Support) from the American Heart Association preferred.
