JOB SUMMARY:
The Standardized Patient Trainer will both train otherstaff to realistically portray a patient in specific scenarios with various types of illnesses/health concerns so that medical studentshave the opportunity to practice their clinical skills in a controlled environment and act as a Standardized Patient. The Standardized Patient Trainer willtrain Standardized patients on how to participate in medical interviews as well as focused or complete medical exams. The trainer also participates in the student trainingprocess. Duties include learning a case script detailing a specific situation along with the specific emotions behaviors and disease symptoms for presentation during simulated learning situations; interacting with medical students during simulated medical examinations; permitting physical examinations wearing a hospital gown while on camera and while being observed; and evaluating student performance.

- Acting role playing and improvisational skills
- Ability to portray a person other than him/herself and convincingly maintain a specified character as trained;
- Ability to recall case scenario details as cued by students in a role-play situation;
- Willingness to objectively evaluate behaviors skills and actions of students during and after a mock exam scenario;
- Permit examinations that may be performed awkwardly;
- Employ active listening skills and good spoken and written communication skills;
- Effectively communicate and provide written/verbal performance feedback;
- Maintain confidentiality of work related information and materials;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships;
- Willingness to work flexible hours on a scheduled and on-call basis;
- Ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations;
- Ability to report to work as scheduled ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM;
- Ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors in a respectful and cooperative manner; and
- Ability and willingness to be flexible to accept other duties needed/assigned for the Institutions needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills to include memorization of scripts and improvisation skills to allow realistic performance of a character. Experience providing verbal and written feedback is desired. Experience acting and/or role playing is desired but not required. H.S. or equivalent is required; however an Associates or Bachelors degree is preferred especially in the following fields of study: health science education psychology performing arts or related areas of study. Acting and/or teaching experience is helpful but not required.Must be able to read understand and write in English the dominant student language.
