Job Summary

The Payments organization owns Toasts payment acceptance and processing products. These products accept and process payments for our point-of-sale our digital/online channels and external partners and they underpin additional financial services such as Toast Capital. On behalf of our customers we process billions of dollars per year; were a critical part of their successand Toasts.

As Director of Product Card Readers you will own the strategy roadmap and delivery of our in-person payments experience on card readers. Youll blend payments depth with hardware savvy to ship reliable fast and compliant checkout across marketspartnering with Mobile Hardware/Firmware Transactions Risk Ops and external vendors/labs. This hybrid role is based in Dublin Ireland (EU relocation supported).

About this roll* (Responsibilities)

  • Define and communicate the card reader platform strategy and multi-year roadmap (device portfolio SDKs/APIs Tap to Pay peripherals) tied to business outcomes.
  • Drive delivery across multiple teamsfrom discovery to launchowning planning execution and trade-offs to hit reliability latency and cost-of-acceptance KPIs.
  • Lead EMV L2/L3 and scheme certifications and market launches; coordinate with labs (e.g. FIME/ICC/UL) processors/acquirers and OEMs to land dates.
  • Ensure quality end-to-end experiences including telemetry/observability OTA/TMS/MDM configuration & firmware pipelines and field-ready rollout plans.
  • Collaborate with Customer Care & Support Fintech Operations Accounting/Finance PM UX and Field Ops so cross-functional needs are reflected in scope and releases.
  • Manage vendors and partners including SLAs joint roadmaps and commercial negotiations.
  • Lead reader migrations/EOL transitions; de-risk certification queues inventory and customer change management.
  • Incorporate relevant advances in payments and terminal tech and industry best practices into our solutions.
  • Define team rituals and delivery processes; run crisp post-mortems and drive systemic fixes for top defects and incidents.
  • Mentor and coach both new and experienced Product Managers and partner Engineering Managers.

Do you have the right ingredients* (Requirements)

  • 1015 years in product management with 5 leading in-person payments POS terminals or device platform products at scale.
  • Experience shipping and operating software/hardware in a transactional SaaS environment with strong reliability and compliance requirements.
  • Deep working knowledge of terminals and payments e.g. EMV (contact contactless/NFC) PIN (online/offline) CDCVM tokenization; auth/capture/refund/reversal flows; ISO 8583; routing (incl. debit networks).
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major terminal stack (e.g. Ingenico Verifone PAX) or Tap to Pay on iOS/Android; familiarity with Bluetooth/USB connectivity and reader UX.
  • Awareness of PCI/P2PE/SRED key management device provisioning/remote management and basics of TMS/MDM.
  • A bias toward action and pragmatic decision-makingbalancing speed with safety and long-term maintainability.
  • Proven ability to influence at executive and cross-functional levels; excellent writing and verbal communication.
  • Strong customer empathy and data instincts; comfort owning KPIs and driving measurable outcomes.
  • Desire to build a diverse team that wins together and prioritizes customer success.
  • Experience in the Payment Acquiring/Processing space strongly preferred; international rollout/certification experience is a plus.
