Schedule: On-Call fully onsite

Under the supervision of the Museum Store Manager and direction of the Assistant Store Manager the Museum Store Associate I is expected to provide exceptional customer service to visitors of the SFMOMA Museum Store by creating a welcoming and inclusive retail environment. The Museum Store Associate I is passionate and well versed in product knowledge and actively engages with shoppers to assist in product selection. Museum Store Associates also serve as ambassadors to SFMOMA and are enthusiastic to share knowledge about exhibitions programs and membership while interfacing with the public.

Responsibilities & Duties

    • Provide courteous friendly service on the selling floor
    • Actively approach and advise customers on product
    • Ring up sales at register and bag purchases; verify credit cards and address patron inquiries
    • Open and close registers
    • Stock sales floor with merchandise from inventory back stock areas; perform periodic inventory of stock
    • Maintain neat appearance of store by organizing supplies shelves and displays and straightening merchandise
    • Clean counters fixtures and sales floor daily including dusting vacuuming and trash disposal
    • Assist in preparing merchandise for sales floor including labeling rolling posters sales stickers etc.
    • Maintains a high level of Museum and product-related knowledge
    • Participates in all SFMOMA and Store related training
    • Maintain awareness and follow the loss prevention security and safety guidelines
    • Assist with other Museum Store duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills

    • High school diploma required with demonstrated knowledge in hospitality art history or practice education or related fields a plus.
    • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in retail sales required.
    • Demonstrated confidence and enjoyment in interacting and working with the public.
    • Ability to work quickly and with a sense of urgency during busy times.
    • Ability to handle cash operate a cash register and work with a computer inventory system.
    • Ability to work effectively with the public and with co-workers.
    • Demonstrated mathematical proficiency and ability to concentrate on details.
    • Demonstrated punctuality and dependability.
    • Ability to communicate problems and conduct constructive problem resolution.
    • Commitment and ability to work varying schedules.

Working Conditions

    • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
    • Must have flexible schedule including evenings weekends and holidays.
    • Bending twisting reaching pushing pulling and performing repetitive motions and standing and walking for up to 5 hours in a row may be required.
$24.19 - $24.19 an hour
$24.19/hour (starting)

This is a union position subject to the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
