Position Overview
The Painter II is an intermediate-level aircraft painting professional responsible for performing skilled preparation masking spraying and finishing tasks under general supervision. This role supports full aircraft paint projects touch-ups stripe layouts and refinishing work ensuring high-quality results that meet FlyExclusive and FAA standards.
Painter II technicians are expected to demonstrate solid technical ability work independently on assigned tasks and support Painter III and Lead Painters on complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
Surface Preparation
Perform sanding scuffing stripping and cleaning of aircraft surfaces.
Prepare substrates for primer and topcoat application.
Assist with corrosion removal and minor surface repairs.
Masking & Layout
Apply masking for stripes logos registration numbers and multi-color designs.
Interpret paint layouts drawings and basic engineering instructions.
Ensure clean lines and proper edge preparation.
Spray & Application
Mix and apply primers base coats and topcoats using approved materials and HVLP spray equipment.
Perform small-area blending and touch-ups under guidance from senior painters.
Maintain proper spray technique gun settings and environmental controls.
Finishing & Quality
Conduct inspections for defects such as runs sags orange peel and contamination.
Perform minor buffing polishing and refinishing as needed.
Maintain attention to detail to ensure high-quality final appearance.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety protocols PPE requirements and hazardous material handling procedures.
Maintain a clean organized FOD-free work environment.
Adhere to OEM FAA and FlyExclusive processes and specifications.
Team Support
Work closely with Painter III Lead Painters and Supervisors to meet project deadlines.
Communicate material needs progress updates and issues promptly.
Assist with mentoring Painter I personnel as requested.
Qualifications
24 years of aircraft painting or automotive/industrial painting experience required.
Strong understanding of prep masking paint mixing and spray techniques.
Ability to read basic technical drawings and paint scheme layouts.
Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand kneel climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs.
Able to work in paint booths confined spaces and elevated platforms.
Must be able to wear a respirator and protective equipment.
Work Environment
Fast-paced MRO environment with changing priorities.
Must be willing to work overtime weekends and alternative shifts as needed.
