Job Summary

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

Our Payroll Services team sits within the Employee Services portfolio of the People and Culture directorate at Ahpra. The team are responsible for ensuring that payroll services are undertaken in accordance with legislative and enterprise agreement obligations and relevant guidelines and policies.

We are seeking a Senior Payroll Officer to join our team on an ongoing full time basis in our Adelaide Brisbane or Melbourne Ahpra locations.

This role is pivotal in delivering accurate timely and compliant payroll services for Ahpra employees and board members. You will provide expert payroll advice manage complex calculations and ensure integrity and compliance across multiple systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver end-to-end payroll processing and advisory services in line with legislation enterprise agreements and Ahpra policies.
  • Perform complex manual calculations and reconciliations (terminations leave overpayments pay estimates).
  • Prepare statutory reports and ensure compliance with taxation and superannuation requirements.
  • Provide authoritative advice on payroll matters including interpretation of Ahpras Enterprise Agreement.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and audit trails supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve payroll queries promptly and professionally.

About You

This role will suit a candidate with existing payroll experience in a large complex organisation (approximately 1650 employees and 600 board members) who is confident managing high-volume payroll processes. You thrive in a fast-paced environment adapt quickly to new systems and maintain accuracy under pressure. You will also bring:

  • Hands-on payroll experience with strong technical knowledge of payroll legislation.
  • Ability to work autonomously while adapting to new systems and processes quickly.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and a good head for numbers.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.
