Position Description
The Third Circuit Court Judge Bethany Peery Glandorf is accepting applications for the position of Special Master.
Typical Duties
Judicial Settlement Conferences
Prepare an outlined history of the case with facts of the case legal positions of the parties pertinent pleadings orders etc.
Verify that all required pleadings have been filed and that the case is ready for trial.
Schedule and conduct the judicial settlement conference and attempt to settle the case or as many issues as possible pre-trial
Special Master Hearings
Schedule hearings referred by the Judge
Review the case and prepare for the hearing
Preside over the special master hearing
Prepare the special masters report and ruling
Occasionally preside over the courts Order of Protection Dockets when that Special Master is unavailable
Assist Pro Se Litigants
Prepare a list of all pro se cases on the Friday motion docket each week
Review pleadings to determine venue and legal basis for filing and review for completeness and readiness for final hearing
Meet with litigants on Fridays to review documents and schedule final hearings if ready to set
Assist litigants with setting their case and preparing orders
Assist the Court
Maintain open communication and availability to assist the Judge with attorneys and litigants as needed
Assist with legal research and preparation for hearings and trials
Assist when necessary with hearing orders of protection and child support matters
Assist with family support or child support issues on the Friday motion docket
Assist with preparation of documents including but not limited to orders parenting plans child support worksheets etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Eligible candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of Tennessee and have at least seven (7) years of domestic practice. They must have completed Rule 31 Family Mediation Training with at least three (3) years of mediation experience with at least twenty (20) cases successfully mediated.
Employee must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.
Employees are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees
Employees must comply with court confidentiality requirements including handling confidential information in a variety of contexts.
Employees are at will and can be terminated at any time with or without cause.
Final candidate is subject to a background check and subsequent favorable suitability determination.Preferred Experience Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to address issues as they arise
Ability to conduct legal research and analyze and apply legal principles and precedents
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to deal courteously and professionally with the public
Ability to establish and maintain an excellent working relationship with staff
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with attorneys encouraging an open line of communication regarding questions or issues
