POSITION SUMMARY: The Regional Political Director works with leadership bodies of the Working Families Party and senior staff to develop and implement regional strategy and plans to (a) build the leadership membership and supporter base of the organization; and (b) achieve electoral and legislative victories that advance the interests of the WFP and working families in his/her region and throughout Michigan. The Regional Political Organizer will lead our membership growth and development electoral programs for endorsed candidates and staff our regional steering committee of member affiliates and member representatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Create and maintain relationships with aligned community groups advocacy organizations labor unions and others to build local WFP chapter(s) and aligned strategy.
    • Designs and executes events and other initiatives to build a political home and journey for progressive Michiganders in the region.
    • Identify and help recruit leaders to build local leadership bodies composed of a diverse group of strategic leaders from affiliates allies and the broader public.
    • Staffs regional steering committee to execute campaigns that increase our electoral power in the region and build the overall power of our partner groups.
    • With State Director and State Political Director plan and oversee legislative campaigns (e.g. organizing coalitions media events lobby visits etc.) within the region.
    • With State Director and State Political Director plan and oversee electoral campaigns (e.g. fundraising endorsements field earned and paid media) within the region.
    • Plan and oversee efforts to build a mass-base of local supporters by working primarily with communications staff and other partners.
    • Meet regularly (both one-on-one and in groups) with leaders from affiliated and allied community labor and advocacy organizations to help them work together electorally legislatively and organizationally.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Meet minimum fundraising goals to implement core functions while harnessing and organizing additional resources to build the party and win priority campaigns.
    • Work with regional Workers Family Party leaders and with the organizations Field Department to skillfully fulfill chapter obligations (e.g. petitioning voter registration etc.).
    • Facilitates processes to address opportunities and conflicts in the region while navigating competing interests multiple stakeholders complex political conditions and a range of possible solutions.
    • Recruits trains and manages local volunteers and allied campaign staff to use organizing tools such as Spoke PDI Scale to Win and Mobilize.
    • Evaluates the success of our organizing and electoral programs and proposes and implements necessary adjustments to methods and processes in response to conditions in the region.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Five or more years of organizing experience with labor or community groups.
    • Significant electoral campaign experience on the state level or higher electoral campaigns or equivalent.
    • Supervisory experience.
    • Competent in Microsoft software (Word Excel PowerPoint).
    • Previous use of Spoke PDI Scale to Win and Mobilize.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Is a skilled organizer with experience in in-person neighborhood or labor organizing coalition/alliance work electoral/field organizing and volunteer management.

REGION:

    • The region is Congressional District 8 which encompasses SaginawBayCity Midland and Flint.
    • Candidates must currently reside in the region or be willing to relocate.

SCHEDULE:

    • The position is full-time and temporary.
$65000 - $85000 a year
Salary & Compensation: The final salary will be determined based on an internal equitable scale that takes into consideration years of experience geographic location and final job description. The upper end of the salary range is reserved for individuals who significantly exceed the minimum qualifications and years of experience.
