General Summary:
The Pharmacology Research Scientist works with a high degree of independence and is adept at conceptually outlining studies to design execute and interpret assays to study the action of compounds on in vitro or in vivo disease biology. Completes work in a resourceful self-sufficient manner and is able to design alternative approaches to achieve desired outcomes. Keeps current on the scientific literature relevant to his/her scientific methodology or field(s) of technical expertise. This level captures both the Research organizations entry level for staff with a research doctoral degree (PhD) and the advanced experimental expert leading one or more critical laboratory functions with high impact on drug discovery projects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Designs and conducts elaborate conceptually connected multi-component experimentsCollates and interprets complex data systematically and synthesizes results into a cohesive body of conclusions or recommendations to guide Project decisions and new research activitiesExercises solid judgment to prioritize studies considering feasibility and Project impactPerforms advanced and/or complex experimental troubleshootingScours relevant scientific literature and routinely incorporates new insights into research activitiesIdentifies prioritizes and introduces relevant emerging technologies in his/her field of expertise to advance the existing technology platforms and create/maintain a competitive advantageExplores the feasibility of applying new scientific principles/concepts or implements and validates novel experimental approaches and technologies to achieve project goalsContributes significantly to patent and/or publication preparationIndependently prepares study presentations and presents experimental conclusions at internal Group/Department or Project Team research meetingsPerforms other duties as assignedKnowledge and Skills:
Designs and executes complex challenging experiments that measure the action of compounds on in vitro or in vivo disease biology assays.A broad working knowledge of fundamental pharmacology principles.Demonstrates astute understanding of his/her own discipline and the relevant literatureMaintains a high level of knowledge related to current developments in the scientific Project fieldDisplays proven productivity and experimental creativity and effective dissemination of ideasDemonstrates effective self-sufficient communication skills especially in peer-directed presentationsDemonstrates awareness of other Project-related disciplines and an understanding of general concepts and some experimental detail within those areasEducation and Experience:
Bachelors degree in in vitro or in vivo pharmacology or related biological sciencesTypically requires a PhD and 0-3 years of experience orTypically requires a Masters degree and 3 years of experience orTypically requires a Bachelors degree and 6 years of experiencePay Range:
$105600 - $158400
Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors including skills competencies experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
