Join Holstep Health as our Building Bridges Mental Health and Wellbeing Community Connector. Based in West Heidelberg this full-time role strengthens connections between Somali and Muslim communities and our Mental Health and Wellbeing services. As part of the Building Bridges project team you will provide a culturally safe linkage point to support access to care build partnerships with community organisations and Elders and work with our mental health teams to enhance cultural safety. You will also help design and deliver community education and outreach that promotes mental health awareness and trust in services.

This six-month position (with potential extension) offers hybrid working a supportive and diverse team and generous salary packaging. We welcome applicants with lived experience and/or a Somali or Muslim background. We are particularly seeking a man to complement the current team but all strong candidates are encouraged to apply.

YOUR NEW ROLE:

  • Build and support connection between the Somali community and the Mental Health and Wellbeing services at Holstep Health.

  • Support access for Somali and Muslim communities to mental health and wellbeing services by providing a linkage point to facilitate entry into services.

  • Work with the project team to plan and deliver a range of community education and engagement activities which support education and awareness of mental health and improve/build cultural safety within the service system that supports people experiencing mental health issues and their families/carers.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Provide warm culturally safe support to Somali and Muslim people seeking to access mental health and wellbeing services.
Support clients through intake and assessment processes and refer to other services as needed including support for carers/families/loved ones
Support the planning and delivery of community education and engagement events & activities
Contribute to the planning and evaluation of the project
Develop maintain and enhance relationships with key stakeholders and relevant community leaders
Engage with internal staff to increase awareness of the project and to support the engagement of the Somali community
Engage in relevant training
Collect and record all relevant data/information to enable necessary reporting
Ensure that client confidentiality is respected and upheld at all times

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

Essential:
Member of the Somali Australian community
Ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with internal and external service providers
Skills in planning and delivering community education events/activities
Demonstrated organisational skills
Strong computer skills and the ability to use common software programs for administrative purpose and the recording of relevant data
Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal

Desirable:
Lived experience of a mental health issues either personally or that of a family member/loved one
Tertiary qualifications in mental health community services or other relevant field
Understanding of the health system in particular the mental health system
Experience in working with youth
