Position Summary
This position will be responsible for the development delivery and evaluation of comprehensive training programs with a primary focus of enhancing and maintaining the Emergency Medical Response capability within the Regina Fire & Protective Services Department. This position will research develop and implement current industry best practices related to the delivery of emergency medical response protocols. This position reports to the Assistant Chief of Education & Training and will support other Education & Training Branch functions as needed.
Note: May be subject to call-back after regular hours during times of emergency.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops implements delivers and evaluates medical programs and training to maintain PCP/ACP licensure and Medical First Responder registrations.
- Liaises with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics to support license renewals.
- Ensures adequate medical equipment supplies medications and develops specifications as required.
- Keeps current with emergency medical techniques methods and community-based service programs.
- Leads quality assurance including review of patient care reporting systems and conducting personnel assessments.
- Coordinates scheduling delivery and maintenance of departmental training programs.
- Instructs personnel on safe operation and maintenance of medical equipment; supports development of well-trained firefighter/paramedics.
- Supports Community Safety & Well-being initiatives and liaises with EMS community.
- Ensures compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations including Respiratory Protection and Infection Control Programs.
- Develops and directs Platoon Support Specialist responsibilities and training assignments with Assistant Chiefs.
- Participates in relevant committees; prepares reports and maintains records.
- Maintains current medical licensure and follows departmental policies procedures and OH&S requirements.
- Performs other duties as required within the Education & Training Branch.
Key Qualifications
- The knowledge skills and abilities are typically obtained through a completion of a Grade Twelve Diploma or GED combined with an Advanced Care Paramedic license. A certificate in Adult Education or equivalent is required. (Candidates who do not possess this qualification upon appointment will be required to obtain the certificate).
- Certification as a Basic Life Support Instructor and Automated External Defibrillation Instructor is a requirement.
- Knowledge of the fire service would be an asset
- A minimum of two years experience as an Advanced Care Paramedic along with two years of adult instruction/training experience including
program development delivery and evaluation. - Certification in NFPA 1041 Level I and II Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Professional Qualifications or equivalent would be considered an asset.
- Advanced Care Life Support International Trauma Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor Certifications would be considered an asset.
- Experience with compliance policies procedures and standards of conduct is necessary.
- Extensive knowledge of emergency medical and fire-based operations including policies procedures equipment and inter-agency response (Police Fire EMS).
- Strong understanding of instructional training and evaluation principles with ability to apply modern training techniques to develop effective programs.
- Knowledge of organizational supervisory and administrative principles.
- Proficient in using computers and audio/visual systems for program development and delivery.
- Strong planning scheduling analytical documentation and recommendation skills.
- Effective oral and written communication and ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
- Demonstrated adaptability initiative and independence in a changing environment.
- Knowledge of general regulations under the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Working/Other Conditions
Must have the means and ability to travel within the City of Regina. Compensation will be provided consistent with the City of Reginas Vehicle Expense Reimbursement Policy.
