Summary

Were looking for a versatile Design Engineering Technician to join our Research & Development team. This role combines mechanical design and drafting skills with hands-on prototyping and testing work. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable working in CAD and on the production floorsomeone who enjoys designing building testing and iterating mechanical systems.

Youll collaborate closely with mechanical electrical and process engineers to develop and validate next-generation X-ray tube technologies used in medical imaging systems.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Design & Drafting

  • Create 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for prototypes assemblies and test fixtures.
  • Support concept development tolerance analysis and design-for-manufacturability efforts.
  • Maintain design documentation BOMs and revision control throughout development cycles.

Prototyping & Fabrication

  • Assemble and modify prototypes test rigs and mechanical components.
  • Collaborate with machinists fabricators and suppliers to produce custom parts.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical builds and propose practical design improvements.

Testing & Data Collection

  • Set up instrument and execute engineering tests under supervision or independently.
  • Record analyze and summarize test data for engineering evaluation.
  • Maintain lab and test equipment in good working order and ensure safe operating practices.
  • Support root cause investigations and help develop corrective design actions based on test outcomes.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Assist engineers in R&D experiments product development and validation testing.
  • Support the transition from prototype to production by refining designs for manufacturability.
  • Provide feedback on mechanical performance assembly ergonomics and test repeatability.

Qualifications

Education: Associates degree or technical certification in Mechanical Design Drafting Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field. Bachelors degree a plus.

Experience:

  • 3 years in an R&D prototype or product development environmentpreferably in medical devices vacuum systems or high-voltage equipment.
  • Proven experience in CAD modeling (SolidWorks Creo or similar).
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with hands-on assembly troubleshooting and instrumentation skills.

Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks Creo or similar).
  • High mechanical aptitude and strong hands-on problem-solving ability.
  • Experience with mechanical assembly fabrication and use of hand/power tools.
  • Understanding of materials GD&T castings CNC machining tool and die practices and mechanical design principles.
  • Familiarity with test instrumentation data acquisition or basic experimental methods preferred.

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • Medium work that will frequently require employee to lift/move up to 60 lbs.
  • Lifting carrying pushing pulling or moving heavy equipment and/or supplies frequently.
  • Reaching above and below the shoulder frequently.
  • Above-average agility and dexterity with the ability to hold grasp and manipulate small parts and use hand and power tools frequently.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and handle physical exertion such as long periods of standing walking bending crouching stretching reaching repetitive motion or similar activities.
  • Work environments includes: exposure to chemicals electrical current proximity to moving mechanical parts repetitive hand motion uneven surface fumes.
