Position: Exeter Summer Teaching Internship (Residential)
Requirements: Applicants must be a current college junior senior or first-year graduate student who has a strong interest in teaching the middle school and/or high school level.
Position Dates: Monday June 29 2026 through Friday August 7 2026.
Stipend: $4300 plus room and board (living in a student room in a dorm)

The Teaching Intern Program at Exeter Summer is an opportunity to experience teaching at a residential school. Interns are paired with and led by an experienced faculty mentor who works closely with them preparing the them to co-teach and ultimately teach independently by the second or third week. Interns will learn and practice the Harkness teaching method a student-directed addition to time with students in the classroom interns will have separate meetings with their mentor and the Intern Coordinators.
Residential life is a key component to the Intern experience at Exeter Summer. Interns become part of a dorm team with experienced faculty who all work together to create a positive experience for students many of whom have never attended a boarding school. Interns share in overseeing the residential program and live in dormitories in a single student room on a floor occupied by students and share bathrooms
Dormitory responsibilities include working with a number of advisees sharing dorm duty on some weeknights and weekends and establishing an adult presence in the residence halls. Interns will attend weekly Residential Life meetings for guidance training and support. Like all faculty advisers interns will meet with advisees weekly to lead students in the residential life curriculum. At the end of the session interns write comments about each of their advisees summarizing the student experience during the program. Interns will be assigned chaperone responsibilities and roles for off-campus excursions on-campus activities dorm social functions and student arrival and departure days.

Exeter Summer brings together a talented highly experienced faculty. Many teach at the Academy during the academic year; some come to us from other private schools public schools and from colleges or universities. Faculty and interns arrive on campus on Monday June 29 for a week of training and meeting to prepare for the session.
We offer a challenging academic program for middle and high school students. These students come from every corner of the globe and embody a rich diversity of language culture religion and race. A high percentage of students choose to board on campus during the program; day students are affiliated with dorms and participate in residential life activities. Students are on campus from Monday July 6 to Thursday August 6.
