Under general supervision this position assists the Department with engineering tasks and field duties related to operations capital projects and development oversight providing the incumbent valuable career experience by learning the innerworkings of municipal engineering and public works operations.


*This position performs duties deemed to be safety sensitive. Employees holding this position participate in pre-employment and random drug testing under Towns policies*

  • Assists with reviews of construction plans and related documents including technical studies and reports for conformance with Town Criteria.


  • Assists in performing inspections of active construction sites; monitors and ensures construction follows the approved engineering plans and specifications on assigned projects. Coordinates the resolution of conflicts when the construction plans are not in accordance with the criteria or existing field conditions.


  • Assists with reviewing and inspecting permits related to utility work within public right-of-way.


  • Assists with duties related to public works operations and capital improvement projects.


  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the education experience certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.


Enrollment in a degree program in civil engineering construction management or related field supplemented by a basic understanding of civil engineering practices and procedures.


Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Drivers License issued by the State of Colorado for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years of driving history.


Employment Standards

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.


  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles relating to roadway drainage and traffic design and the ability to apply these to the review of construction plans specifications and technical reports.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of computers and various software programs.
  • Ability to obtain an understanding of standard engineering reference materials and the ability to apply these to design scenarios.
  • Ability to obtain an understanding of the storm drainage and water quality/detention criteria and design procedures of the Town and the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District.
  • Ability to read understand interpret and explain construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations typically used in engineering design such as finding slopes flow rates proportions percentages area circumference and volume.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and/or oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle on paved roads and construction sites.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.


Additional Information

Hiring Range: $21.28-$25.00/hr.

Full Range: $21.28-$28.73/hr.

Tools & Equipment

Requires use of general office equipment such as computers printers telephones and related software. Use of specialized tools or equipment may also be necessary including but not limited to technical devices mechanical tools heavy equipment machinery public-safety-related items or other industry-specific systems. If required by the position the employee may operate a personal or Town-owned vehicle.


General and Sensory Requirements
The employee is regularly required to sit stand walk reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects tools or controls. Duties may also require stooping kneeling crouching crawling climbing stairs or ladders and maintaining balance. The employee must be able to talk and hear effectively both in person and over the phone and must be capable of operating a vehicle if required by the role. Vision requirements include consistent near and far visual acuity depth perception peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus to allow a broad field of vision.


Moderate Physical Demands
This position involves frequent physical activity and movement. The employee must be able to lift carry push or pull up to twenty-five (25) pounds frequently and up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally.


Environment

Physical presence onsite is required. Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled office environment but will occasionally be performed in outdoor field settings. The noise level is variable depending on activities or location. Employees in this position may be exposed to fumes odors dust or airborne particles and work in proximity to moving mechanical parts or machinery.
