Engineering Intern

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated Engineering Intern to join our engineering this role you will collaborate closely with our engineering and construction teams on a variety of design and construction projects. This internship offers hands-on exposure to client interactions contractor coordination and communication with government officials. You will gain experience across the full project lifecycle-from conceptual design and engineering development through regulatory reviews bidding and construction.

Essential Job Functions

• Attendance physically present to work.

• Assist with civil engineering tasks ranging from basic to moderate complexity.
• Learn drainage calculations and develop foundational engineering drawings using CAD software.
• Accompany construction inspectors during site visits and inspections.
• Support both office and field operations as needed.
• Organize and maintain as-built design documentation.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

• Completion of two years toward a B.S. in Engineering or Engineering related field.
• Completed coursework in engineering and/or construction management.
• Must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at Citys expense.
• Must have current valid Class C Texas Driver License and be insurable.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Some experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint).
• Ability to support field inspections testing coordination and basic Q/A documentation.
• Good technical writing presentation and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrate initiative strong work ethic leadership potential and effective communication.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

• Requires ability to navigate construction sites and move across uneven or rough terrain.
• Involves occasional walking standing sitting stooping lifting moving or positioning objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
• Sitting and standing in front of a computer monitor for extended periods of time.
• The regular day-to-day work environment may involve typical indoor/outdoor conditions and various physical discomforts including unpleasant odors chemical fumes dust smoke heat cold oil dirt and grease.
• Office conditions are sitting standing in an air-conditioned environment while coordinating with office staff on a daily basis.
