Project: Archival processing cataloguing and digitizing of documents
Type: Contract Work for an assistant archivist
Term: 8 December 2025 to 31 March 2026
Fees: $45.00 per hour / maximum contract $25000
Reports to: Archivist
The Inuit Circumpolar Council Canada is seeking a person or firm to perform the tasks listed in the scope of work for a limited-term contract. The Assistant Archivist will bring together European/colonial archival theories and practices with Inuit knowledge traditions and specific cultural information needs.
Scope of Work:
- Appraisal arrangement and description of records according to RAD and ICC Canada Archives standards;
- Digitization of textual photographic and graphic records;
- Writing of name authority files (biographies) according to ICC Canada Archives standards;
- Adding created content (descriptions and digitisations) to the ICC Canada Archives database (AtoM);
- Preparing archival descriptions for translation into Inuktitut;
- Other related duties as requested by the Archivist.
Recommended Qualifications Knowledge and skills:
- Familiarity with archival practices methodologies and theories especially descriptive standards;
- Excellent written communication skills in English;
- Strong research skills and the ability to synthesize information gathered through research;
- Superb organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively;
- Flexible in handing a variety of concurrent tasks with solid time management abilities;
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft 365;
- Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Some knowledge and understanding of Inuit culture traditions and issues;
- Travel to other libraries and archives in the greater Ottawa area may be required;
- Moderate physical activity requires lifting up to 40 pounds and some standing and walking;
- Spoken Inuktut is an asset.
Education:
- Completed graduate degree in archives or a related field from an accredited university (information management history Indigenous studies library science etc.)
