The Ordnance Handler Crew Chief is responsible for the supervision and leadership of a crew of Ordnance Handlers (OHs) performing tasks related to the safe and efficient shipping receiving storage inventory housekeeping and related duties for Arms Ammunition and Explosive (AA&E) commodities. AA&E normally consists of but not limited to Small Arms Ammunition Pyrotechnics Small Rockets Assorted Hazardous Material items (referred to as ) Large Scale AA&E commodities such as Minuteman Trident Castor etc. Rocket Motors (referred to as LRM Ops). This position also supervises and leads OH performing similar duties with Non-Hazardous Materials such as asset support stocks equipment and other customer related commodities.
The OH Crew Chief serves as a fully qualified and certified crew member in Conventional (Conv.) and/or Large Rocket Motor (LRM) Operations and performs work within the Ammunition Storage Area (ASA) which will place the individual within the Explosives Safety Quantity Distances (ESQD) Arc of a Potential Explosion Site (PES). Actively participates in promoting a continuous improvement workplace culture through the use of teamwork root cause problem solving standard operating procedures and review of performance metrics.

Directs OH Crews in operational tasks in compliance with Standing Operating Procedures or other similar task guidance procedures for the safe and efficient execution of shipping receiving and warehousing operations relating to all customer commodities (AA&E and Non-AA&E). Ensure all tasks are conducted in accordance with DOD federal state and/or local Follow regulatory orders guidance. explicit and Report implicit any and as all commensurate non-compliance within issues relating current to Training safety through Qualification proper and supervisory channels. Follow orders explicit and implicit as commensurate within their current Training Qualification and Certification Level as directed by Managers Supervisors and/or Trainers in order to accomplish departmental tasks goals and objectives.
Directs OH Crews in the operation of assigned Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) and other associated tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner following all regulatory mandates. Perform Post Operation Inspections and file reports as applicable.
Ensures OH Crews perform Prior to Use (PTU) and Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) on assigned MHE WHE CMVs and other AA&E assorted tools and equipment in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Ensures all equipment is serviceable and safe to use in all operations. Ensure PTU/PMCS documentation is filed in accordance with departmental equipment maintenance procedures.
Directs OH Crews in the performance of general housekeeping to ensure cleanliness orderliness and user level maintenance of all associated departmental facilities and surrounding work areas is maintained.
Directs OH Crews in the performance of specialized handling of AA&E such as; disassembly of arm/disarm and safe devices nozzle removal exudate cleanup component installations/removals as specified by customer technical documents.
Maintain AA&E and Non-AA&E certification eligibility through the performance and attendance of required sustainment training in accordance with applicable Training Qualification and Certification Program. Read and review all regulatory documentation relating to assigned AA&E and Non-AA&E operational tasks ensuring all updates and revisions are understood. Keep current with any changes or update to documentation.
Develop work plans and schedules to meet departmental goals and objectives. Ensured personnel are informed of necessary policy rules regulations and other such management protocols. Provides guidance training and direction to subordinates including establishing performance standards and expectations and managing performance.
Developing documenting and implementing On-The-Job Training for assigned operations. Provides reports verbal and written to the Ordnance Operations Officer Ordnance Operations Manager and other leadership/staff.
Other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5% - 10%)

Knowledge of:
The application and usage of Federal State and Local laws rules regulations policies and procedures governing the handling of all AA&E as well as how to find answers to safely handle AA&E if not already well established.
The safe use of assigned powered equipment and basic hand tools.
Ordnance Operations Directorate Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) involving the understanding operation maintenance and user level repairs of MHE WHE CMVs and other associated tools and equipment.
The basic principles and procedures for the safe storage and handling of AA&E.
Studying training materials or regulatory guidance. Being capable of retaining information displaying retention through various forms of demonstration (ie. Written examinations verbal feedback physical demonstrations of required tasks etc.).
The risks associated with working with and in close proximity to high explosives and the safety measures required to perform such activities.
Risk assessment procedures and applying it when participating in the development policies and/or guidelines for AA&E operations.
The leadership attributes necessary for motivating encouraging maintaining discipline and developing a cohesive team.

3 or more years of ordnance operations experience. 3 or more years supervisory experience. Forklift or Crane Operator qualified. Possession of CDL Class A w/HAZMAT Endorsement. Possession of Secret Security Clearance. The preferred candidate should have any combination of experience education and training that meets the knowledge skills and abilities.

This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current valid Arizona state-issued drivers license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R.12.)
In and out of State travel required.
Must be a U.S. citizen. Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background investigation as well as possess the ability to achieve a favorable Tier 3 investigation for the purpose of obtaining/maintaining a Secret clearance eligibility and Common Access Card (CAC) within one year of hire.
Must be able to satisfactorily complete and sustain the following types of training licensing and/or permit requirements (as applied by the positions training qualification and certification requirements which are established by the departments OOCB processes):
o OSHA Topics General Awareness and Initial departmental training modules
o Department of Defense Explosives Awareness and Hazardous Materials training courses or equivalents as applied within DOD explosive safety standards.
o Mission peculiar Vehicles Equipment and specialized tools as assigned by the department and associated regulations.
o Certification in Ordnance Crew Chief duties as prescribed by the departments OOCB processes for the position.
