This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity; no compensation or benefits are available for this role.
Position Overview:
The Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Bereavement Department is seeking compassionate volunteers to provide phone-based support to families following the loss of a loved one in hospice care. Volunteers will make regular calls to offer emotional support provide information on available services and extend invitations to memorialization events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Make 25-30 support calls per week to bereaved family members.
- Follow a provided script to guide conversations.
- Document brief notes on each call in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) for record-keeping.
- Work closely with the Bereavement Department and Volunteer Services Supervisor to ensure continuity of care.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Comfort speaking with individuals experiencing grief.
- Basic administrative skills for documentation.
- Proficient with computers and able to navigate electronic records email and basic software applications.
- Experience with electronic medical records preferred.
- Comfort using smartphones tablets and video call platforms.
- Ability to learn new software quickly.
Training and Support
- Comprehensive training provided including scripts for best practices.
- Ongoing support from the Bereavement Department.
