What You Will Do

Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.

  • Involves exploration of subject area definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation.

  • Applies novel concepts broad technical skills and creative solutions.

  • Assumes responsibility for the integrity of design decisions taking into consideration economic political and technical aspects.

  • Acts as radar engineering SME. Provides engineering guidance to RSF technical staff with respect to radar calibration upgrades and troubleshooting of existing radar systems. Designs and tests radar subsystems as needed. Participates in design reviews for system upgrades and/or new system developments. Assists with verification and validation of the same.

  • Participates in field deployments to support RSF instruments

  • Assists with writing/reviewing of proposals for new remote sensing instruments

Successful candidates will ensure their application materials speak to the following criteria:
Education and Experience (Required/Desired):

  • Bachelors degree in engineering and at least nine years of engineering experience;

  • or a Masters degree in Engineering and at least seven years of experience;

  • or a Ph.D. degree and at least five years of experience;

  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (Required/Desired)

  • Expert knowledge of weather radar hardware in particular S-Pol and HCR.

  • Expert knowledge of digital signal processing as it applies to weather radars.

  • Ability to accurately calibrate radars.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex radar performance issues.

  • Extensive experience in supporting radar deployments both domestically and internationally.

  • Experience with MATLAB IDL or equivalent tools.

  • Skilled in using test and measurement equipment including oscilloscopes logic analyzers spectrum analyzers and microwave network analyzers.

  • Able to operate personal computers running Windows 10 Mac OS or Linux and use word processing spreadsheet and presentation software.
