Your unique talents will help patients on their journey to wellness. Learn more at are searching for the best talent for a Business Development Director to join our J&J Orthopaedics team. This position is remote based with the ideal candidate residing in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months subject to legal requirements including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies as may be required regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals.

Should you accept this position it is anticipated that following conclusion of the transaction you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes programs policies and benefit that case details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.

Purpose:

Responsible for achieving sales and profitability targets across all orthopaedics business units. Lead six sales leaders and coordinate with a national sales agent network to drive growth through market share expansion innovation adoption and strategic market opportunities. Build strong relationships with key customers and translate market insights into actionable strategies and profitable opportunities. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align objectives and influence organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver on sales and profitability targets across all orthopaedics businesses per the annual business plan.
  • Lead and develop six Sales Leaders to achieve targets and drive performance across the national network of six agents.
  • Define and execute business strategies with the National Sales Agent network to ensure alignment with JJMT objectives and processes.
  • Establish sales goals quotas and forecasts; manage pipeline and performance metrics.
  • Lead account segmentation and territory planning.
  • Develop a business strategy that grows sales through market share gains innovation adoption and new market opportunities.
  • Engage cross-functional partners to drive ROI-driven initiatives and maximize the effectiveness of growth plans and tactics.
  • Monitor progress extract key learnings and initiate corrective actions with internal stakeholders and the Canadian selling force.
  • Contribute to contracting and pricing strategies in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key customers; expand the customer base.
  • Collaborate with and influence internal stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of competitors strategies services and business models to shape our market approach.
  • Gain market insights through regular interactions with customers and industry experts.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Achieve Sales and Profitability Targets across all orthopaedics business units by developing and executing strategic plans with internal stakeholders and the Canadian sales force. (20%)
  • Develop and Implement Business Strategies focused on market share growth innovation adoption partnerships and market expansion opportunities. (20%)
  • Build Effective Relationships with key customers and internal stakeholders to drive business growth and align strategies. (20%)
  • Lead and Mentor Field Sales Team to ensure alignment between business strategies and company goals and seamless execution. (20%)
  • Lead and Manage Direct Reports to ensure delivery of sales and profitability objectives. (15%)
  • Monitor Market Dynamics and competitor strategies to anticipate industry changes gather insights and translate them into actionable solutions. (5%)

Other Duties:

  • Contributes to the pricing strategy in alignment with global pricing guidance and local pricing policy
  • Contribute to marketing business planning by providing market insights and dynamics
  • Support onboarding and development of the Canadian sales teams expertise through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Track analyze and communicate sales performance innovation adoption metrics and major event outcomes to ensure objectives are met and strategies are adjusted as needed.
  • Attend related industry conferences.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a university degree is required MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant business experience and experience in a minimum of 2 different business functions (sales business development sales operations marketing Finances etc) is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years people management is required.
  • Up to 50% domestic and international travel may be required.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Leadership and people management: Proven ability to lead and develop multiple leaders coach performance and cultivate high-performing teams
  • Strategic thinking and execution: Ability to define clear business strategies and translate them into actionable plans that align with organizational goals
  • Financial acumen and profitability focus: Strong budgeting forecasting pricing and ROI-oriented decision-making to optimize profitability
  • Channel and network management: Experience coordinating with a national sales network aligning efforts and driving synergies
  • Customer relationship management and key account development: Building and maintaining strategic relationships with key customers to expand the customer base
  • Negotiation contracting and pricing: Strong negotiation skills and experience shaping contracting and pricing strategies with internal teams.
  • Cross-functional collaboration and influence: Collaborates with finance marketing operations and other stakeholders to drive aligned growth initiatives.
  • Market and competitive intelligence: Ability to gather analyze and act on insights about competitors market trends and customer needs.
  • Data literacy and analytics: Comfortable to inform strategy track performance and take decisions.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $131000 to $225975 CAD.
