Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION Teach college-level courses in Communication Studies including but not limited to Public Speaking (which requires department-approved filming/critiquing of student speeches) Interpersonal Communication Intercultural Communication Small Group Communication Argument and Critical Thinking and Forensics; and related courses to a diverse student population. Serve as Co-Director of Forensics (Speech and Debate) and responsible for developing and expanding the intercollegiate competition program as assigned. Responsibilities as Co-Director of Forensics will include but are not limited to coaching fundraising establishing and executing budgets completing necessary student travel/tournament documentation recruiting students traveling with the team to tournaments and judging at tournaments. Maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position. Participate in curriculum development and serve on department division college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities. Participate in co-curricular activities including planning implementing and teaching in special programs designed to support student success. Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle. Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings. Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g. computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient organized and timely manner. Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district college and division policies in the performance of duties. Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions. Develop culturally relevant course content culturally responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American Latinx Native Americans Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students. Work cooperatively with staff and students. Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Desirable Qualifications
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Experience directing or assisting with the coordination of high school and/or collegiate forensics team activities. Experience recruiting and coaching students maintaining a budget managing travel and hotel arrangements traveling with students and judging tournament events. Expertise in coaching speech events and/or debate. Recent college teaching experience in the areas of Forensics Public Speaking Interpersonal Communication Intercultural Communication Small Group Communication and/or Argumentation. Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills necessary to work collegially with coaches directors faculty and students. Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching student success and academic excellence. Ability to apply learning theories and utilize instructional technology effectively. Effective oral and written communication skills. Experience in teaching with and/or developing Open Education Resources. Experience in teaching using distance learning platforms and/or other current instructional technologies. Experience with teaching and mentoring historically and socially minoritized/marginalized communities such as African-American/Black Chicanx/Latinx Pacific Islander Native American women LGBTQIA and people with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Masters in speech speech broadcasting telecommunications rhetoric communication communication studies speech communication or organizational communication OR Bachelors in any of the above AND Masters in drama/ theater arts mass communication or English OR Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area. OR The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education training employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
