Job Title: Pediatrics Registered Nurse (RN) Inpatient Department
Specialty: Inpatient Pediatrics Registered Nurse (Acute Care)
Site: Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC)
Location: Shiprock New Mexico (Navajo Area IHS)
Duration: 6 months contract with the possibility of four 6 months contract
Shift Schedule:
- Shifts may include 12-hour 10-hour or 8-hour schedules
- Day Night Weekend and Holiday shifts may be assigned
- Tour of duty set by the Nursing Supervisor
- Flexibility required; may rotate to other inpatient sections as needed
Estimated Shifts Needed Per Month:
(Approximation based on 1040 hours over 6 months)
- 12-hour shifts: 14 15 per month
- 8-hour shifts: 21 22 per month
Final schedule determined by facility.
License:
Current and unrestricted RN license from any U.S. state (including DC Puerto Rico or U.S. Territories)
Certifications (Required):
- BLS
- PALS
- NLS
- TNCC or ATCN
- ACLS
Experience Needed:
- Minimum of 36 months total RN experience
- At least 2 years of recent inpatient pediatric nursing experience (unless exception approved)
Special Skills Needed:
- Acute inpatient pediatrics (med-surg / step-down)
- Pediatric medication administration & weight-based dosing
- IV therapy & venipuncture
- Age-specific assessments (infant through adolescent)
- Pain management for pediatric patients
- Emergency response & code participation
- Documentation in EHR
- Cultural awareness for Navajo and AI/AN populations
- Ability to meet unit competencies and rotate as assigned
Credentialing / Onboarding Time: Estimated 6 8 weeks
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive inpatient pediatric nursing care within RN scope and facility policies
- Complete assessments documentation and nursing care plans
- Administer medications accurately and safely
- Perform IV therapy venipuncture monitoring and evaluation
- Ensure HIPAA EMTALA and patient rights compliance
- Apply and document restraints appropriately
- Respond to emergencies and follow facility code protocols
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
- Deliver culturally appropriate care for Navajo and Native patients
- Maintain required competencies and complete orientation modules
- Rotate to other sections as assigned to meet care needs
Miscellaneous:
- Must complete child-protection training within 30 days of onboarding
- Must adhere to Navajo Area IHS policies security requirements and documentation standards.
