About the Role
We are seeking dedicated and reliable Ground Maintenance Operatives to join the councils Grounds and Cleansing Service. This team plays a vital role in delivering safe clean well-maintained and sustainable public environments across the county. You will work individually and as part of a team to maintain public open spaces verges planted areas cemeteries schools and contracted sites.
While most of your duties will involve grounds maintenance you may also support the Street Services team with litter picking responding to fly-tipping and general local environmental quality work.
This is a hands-on outdoor role that requires physical capability attention to safety teamwork and community pride.
Key Responsibilities
Grounds Maintenance
Carry out grass cutting using both hand-held and ride-on equipment.
Maintain horticultural areas including shrub beds and annual bedding.
Assist with grave digging and cemetery operations (subject to training).
Mark and maintain sports facilities.
Undertake landscaping works and basic arboriculture tasks.
Street Services Support
Empty litter bins and carry out litter picking in open spaces and verges.
Respond to fly-tipping reports and follow correct evidence procedures.
Participate in waste loading only if you have opted into this service (e.g. bank holiday catch-up).
Equipment Vehicles & Safety
Conduct daily safety checks and keep vehicles clean.
Operate machinery and plant safely and in line with manufacturer guidelines.
Maintain tools equipment and ensure proper use of PPE.
Work in line with all Health & Safety legislation and Council procedures.
Participate in emergency response (snow clearance flooding storms) including occasional evenings weekends or bank holidays (rota-based).
General Duties
Work within the annualised hours scheme (43hrs in summer / 37hrs in winter).
Undertake additional duties appropriate to the grade once trained.
Work courteously and represent the Council professionally always.
Maintain effective communication with supervisors and colleagues.

Ideal Candidate Profile
Essential Skills & Experience
Clean UK driving licence.
Previous experience in grounds maintenance landscaping horticulture cleansing or a similar outdoor environment.
Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements and ability to follow safe working practices.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills.
Self-motivation and pride in delivering high-quality work.
Willingness to work flexible hours including emergencies or bank holidays when required.
Willingness to undertake required training.
