Role Overview
We are seeking an early-career Legal Counsel to join our clients in-house legal team based in Melbourne. The role offers exposure to high-value commercial work major project activity and legal challenges that evolve across all stages of the project lifecyclefrom tendering and contract award to delivery and completion.
This position will suit a lawyer who enjoys fast-paced environments and wants to strengthen their expertise in contract law infrastructure delivery risk management and commercial advisory work.
Key Responsibilities
In this role you will:
Provide clear timely legal advice across a broad range of commercial and project-related matters
Draft review and negotiate contracts such as procurement agreements consultancy engagements subcontracts and commercial arrangements
Support internal stakeholders during project tendering design phases and delivery activities
Assist with contract administration including variations notices claims and related documentation
Contribute to early-stage risk assessments and commercial strategy development
Support dispute avoidance and dispute resolution processes including preparation for mediation adjudication and related forums
Help develop internal policies governance materials and compliance practices
Conduct legal research and provide advice to senior leaders and project teams
Collaborate with engineering commercial finance and executive teams to align legal advice with business objectives
Requirements
A Bachelor of Laws (LLB or equivalent) and a current Australian practising certificate
24 years post-admission experience in private practice or in-house roles
Exposure to major projects commercial contracts infrastructure construction or related industries (desirable)
Strong drafting negotiation and analytical skills
A practical solutions-focused approach to legal problem-solving
Ability to communicate legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders
Interest in developing further expertise in commercial advisory work and project delivery
A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn within a supportive team environment
