Position Overview
The Office of Human Resources is seeking to hire a dynamic and well-organized Accessibility and Job Accommodation Manager with strong leadership and communication skills. This position is responsible for directing the statewide coordination of accessibility job accommodations and workplace needs and priorities for the Department with a special emphasis on Titles I-IV of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Essential Functions
- Serves as the manager of the Accessibility and Job Accommodation Section.
- Directs the formulation of access and workplace accessibility initiatives and strategies.
- Serves as full-line supervisor.
- Provides advice and consultation to divisions regarding accessibility job accommodations and workplace needs and priorities.
- Maintains liaison relationship with other department divisions administrators and interest groups.
- Assists in providing direction in matters relating to budget and administrative personnel utilization methods of program operations and responsibilities of specialized operations.
- Coordinates collaborative activities with state and external entities to further ADA resources and awareness such as Interagency Committee on Employees with Disabilities (ICED) ADA for Illinois Ability Links Access Living and CATS Transportation Task Force.
- Performs other duties as required or requested which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college.
- Requires three (3) years progressively responsible administrative experience facilitating workplace accommodations in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related legislation including but not limited to the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) religious accommodations and Human Rights statutes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of professional experience ensuring Title II ADA compliance for both employees and customers including physical accessibility of facilities and effective communication practices (e.g. accessible documents auxiliary aids).
- Three (3) years of professional experience in a public or private organization managing ADA and Section 504 grievances including intake investigation resolution and documentation of disability-related complaints.
- Three (3) years of professional experience working with programs for individuals who need job accommodations or access to resources.
- Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience managing personnel assigning work providing guidance to subordinates implementing discipline training and evaluating staff.
- Three (3) years of professional experience working with and staying abreast of new technology and/or accommodations available to individuals with disabilities.
- Three (3) years of professional experience meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail and the ability to utilize critical thinking skills while multi-tasking multiple projects.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties with overnight stays as appropriate.
