How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW
Air Liquide is a world leader in the design construction and operation of industrial gas production units. The structural integrity of these units is essential to guarantee the Groups reliability and competitiveness.
The Groups engineering develops and builds equipment with the support of R&D in strategic areas such as material selection and operational monitoring.
In the production of hydrogen by Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) for example tubular reactors undergo accelerated aging of their microstructure and creep damage (high-temperature deformation) which can lead to rupture. Air Liquide is also exploring other technologies for hydrogen the latter the assembly of the tubular reactor with the baffles that transport the resulting gas mixture is subjected to severe thermo-mechanical stresses that threaten its structural integrity.
To anticipate these failures and ensure continuous hydrogen production without unplanned shutdowns we are developing modeling tools for integrity calculation and residual life estimation.
Internship Objectives:
Continue previous work on the study of creep in reformer tubes.
Develop a thermo-mechanical model for the SMR tube (reactor)/baffle assembly.
Interns Missions:
Analyze the scientific literature on the thermo-mechanical modeling of SMR tube/baffle assemblies and on the creep modeling of reformer tubes.
Define and implement the most relevant modeling strategy to capture the systems behavior (including differential thermal expansion of reactors and baffles contact forces friction).
Identify the model parameters from experimental data or literature.
Compare the model predictions with field observations or pilot test results.
