Job Summary

The Multimedia Storyteller helps build Island Institutes brand by creating high-quality videos and photos that reflect its mission. This position is responsible for capturing and editing raw footage to produce polished content for various marketing channels. The Multimedia Storyteller works collaboratively as a member of the Marketing Team and supports select projects for Island Institute Publications Philanthropy Programs and Events Teams as assigned. This role also includes managing relationships and projects subcontracted to other videographers and photographers as needed.

Application Requirement: In addition to a resume and cover letter applicants must include a digital portfolio featuring 3-5 of their strongest and most relevant projects.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in media communications or a related field is preferred; however at least three years of relevant professional experience is considered equally valuable.
  • Demonstrated experience in people-focused video storytelling and photography; experience with underwater aerial and other innovative techniques is a plus.
  • Skilled in video production and photo editing including post-production workflow; experience with animation is a plus.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to work collaboratively to understand project objectives gather insights from team members and subject matter experts and translate complex ideas into accessible engaging and visually compelling narratives.
  • Experienced in conducting insightful interviews and shaping multifaceted stories that resonate with diverse audiences and align with strategic messaging goals.
  • Outstanding verbal and interpersonal communication and relationship building skills; able to speak about the organizations work in an articulate professional and compelling manner (one-on-one and with groups) and build trust with story subjects and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience crafting editing and adapting visual assets for various formats and uses including social media web print and film.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; able to balance multiple assignments meet deadlines and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Exceptional written communication skills; able to effectively convey the organizations mission priorities and programs to diverse audiences in a variety of formats.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive and helpful feedback with staff colleagues and community partners.
  • Experience with technology including the Adobe suite (Photoshop Premiere InDesign Illustrator After Effects) social media digital asset management software WordPress Office 365 applications.
  • The ability and willingness to travel throughout Maine for assignments with access to reliable transportation.


Essential Functions:

  • Serves as a member of the Marketing Team and collaborates with teammates on marketing video and photo content publications video and photo content fundraising campaigns and event documentation.
  • Supports the visual brand identity of Island Institute with exceptional photography and videography.
  • Leads and produces short form video content including Stories of Impact video series optimizing content for cross-channel distribution.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities for multimedia storytelling including photography interviews and video B roll that align with brand identity and support strategic messaging goals.
  • Manages and works collaboratively with external content producers including photographers and filmmakers for special projects.
  • Provides photography support to project teams and graphic designers as assigned.
  • Manages the organizations digital asset management system to provide timely and easy access to shared assets.
  • Periodically creates video and photo assets for Island Institutes print publications The Working Waterfront and Island Journal working collaboratively with the Editor as assigned.
  • Seeks and participates in professional development opportunities to build cross-sector and essential skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Physical demands: the employee is required to operate photo and video equipment sit use computer keyboard and mouse stand walk bend over occasionally and move about the office space and community spaces as well as between building floors. The employee is required to lift and/or move weights of more than 15-20 pounds. The employee will be expected to travel regularly by car boat and ferry to various island and remote coastal locations. Occasionally there will be times when working long hours on evenings and weekends will be required.
  • Travel: Must be comfortable traveling for extended periods of time by any mode of transportation in cross cultural contexts.
  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

Base pay for this position is $58401 with a range that depends on experience and skills related to position responsibilities and qualifications. Most initial offers are made below the midpoint of the range and are based on factors such as relevant experience skills alignment and internal equity. Recognizing that no candidate will possess all the relevant skills and experience we encourage you to apply if you align with many of the qualifications for and interests in this role.
