The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager Development Engineering the City is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Development Engineer to support responsible growth guide infrastructure improvements and ensure high-quality development that serves our residents for years to come.
Accountabilities
Perform technical reviews of residential and commercial planning and development applications submitted to the City to ensure conformance with City regulations specifications and design guidelines.
Coordinate with other City departments and divisions in a cooperative manner.
Carry out field work as necessary to perform site inspections or investigate enquiries and follow all appropriate safety protocols.
Respond to general enquiries and complaints from the Public Contractors and Consultants.
Attend meetings with Developers to help guide through the development process.
Apply independent engineering judgement on technical issues not covered by City regulations specifications and design guidelines.
Prepare reports and correspondence as necessary.
The successful applicant will be required to participate in all training programs applicable to this position and other related work. Qualifications
Applicants must have successfully graduated from a recognized university with a degree in Civil Engineering and be registered or eligible for registration with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Experience in municipal engineering will be considered an asset.
Applicants must have knowledge in the design and construction of public infrastructure.
Excellent analytical communication and report writing skills
Candidates should have the ability to multitask coordinate and establish priority for processing multiple development applications in a timely manner.
Ability to deal with people effectively objectively and courteously and establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff general public contractors and consultants.
A strong knowledge of standard software is required.
Applicants must have a valid Class 5 drivers license.
