Job Summary

Join the Marketing and Communications team at UI Health Care as the Director of Communications. This role developsmarketing and communications strategiesfor theUniversity of IowaRoy J. and Lucille College of Medicine a highly ranked medical school with a statewide commitment to education research and patient care.

As a keyleaderinUIHealth CaresMarketing and Communications teamthe director works closely with various stakeholdersincluding faculty staff and learners to positively position Iowas only comprehensive academicmedical center. The director leadsan established team of communicators alumni relations STEM education and executive eventsprofessionals. Additionally the role collaborates closely with others across the Marketing and Communications teamto achieve shared goals and use resources position reports to the associate vice president.

Position Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Create and overseemarketing andcommunication plansto supportthe medicalschoolsstrategic goalsto inspire and educate world-class health care providers and scientists.

  • Elevate the academic brand by better aligningcommunicationsand marketingstrategies to support themedicalschool as measured by US News NIH fundingand other metricsidentifiedby themedicalschool as top priorities.

Message Development and Implementation

  • Lead internal communications for the College collaborating with UI HealthCaresMarketingand Communicationsteams and academic departments and unitsto increase faculty staffand learner engagement advocacy and ambassadorship.

  • Lead contentdirectionandcreation formedicalschool intranet web pages and social media.

  • Oversee research projects to supportmarketing and communications campaigns tomap stakeholder journeys andrecruitand engagefaculty and learners.

  • Leadintegrated plans for marketing and promotion of themedicalschoolwith other Marketing and Communications divisions:MarketingStrategic CommunicationsContent Strategyand Digital improvingoverall efficiencyof team resources

  • Identifyand share inspiring stories that demonstrate CCOMs commitment to academic excellence innovative research and positive community impact.

  • Hire and oversee external agency support as needed as an extension of the internal team.

Public Relations

  • Build andmaintainpositive working relationships withkeyinternal leaders including executive leaders department chairs program leaders faculty medical school studentsanddepartment communications staff to align marketing and communication strategies withour brand and enterprise goals.

  • Collaborate with communication team members inacademicdepartmentsand programsthe universityand theotheruniversity colleges tomaintaina cohesive voice.

  • Eventmanagement:Oversee event managementteamforspecial eventsacross the medical school and health with UI Health Careexecutiveleadership and provide oversight of special event services that supportthe medical school and health system includingopen houses groundbreakings ceremonies and receptions.

  • STEM:Oversee thedevelopment ofSTEM engagement programscreating interest and enthusiasmfor health care education and careers.

  • Alumni relations: Oversee the development of CCOM alumni relationcommunications includingcollaboration with theUniversity of IowaCenter for Advancement

  • Represent UI Health Care onrelevanteducation boards committeesor associations.

FinancialResponsibility and Information Management

  • Manage andmonitorthe divisions budget.

  • Track andmonitorkey measures of success.

  • OverseeCRMintegrations following privacy and UI policies

  • Prepare reports to share strategy plans results and opportunities.

Leadership/Supervision

  • Serve as part of the Marketing and Communications leadership team toidentifyand lead new opportunities align strategy and use resources effectively and efficiently.

  • Coach mentor and guide team members and collaborators to achieve shared goals and defined outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in leadership communication public relations marketing or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 7 years of successful experience incommunication leadership and multi-channel communications

  • Demonstrated experience developingintegrated communicationsplans

  • Ability to develop teams and individuals

  • Proven results of managing external agencies and integrating their work with internal teams

  • Provenexpertisein digital content strategy for professionaloracademic audiences including intranet newsletters and professional social media channels

  • Exceptional writing editingand research skills

  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to build positive collaborative relationships

  • Strong management analytical negotiation and problem-solving skills

  • Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines

  • Proficiencyin MS Office

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplaceenvironment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience leading amarketing orcommunications team in an academic medical center multi-hospital system higher education administrationor other large complex business environment

  • Demonstrated experience developing integrated marketing campaigns and communications plans including commissioning market research

  • Experiencepromotingfaculty research grantawards and/orNIH funding announcements

  • High degree of self-motivation and initiative
