Job Summary
The Calculus Coordinator provides management support in the development and maintenance of all first-year calculus courses in the Mathematics Department.

The department has the largest first year course enrollment in the Faculty of Science. The Calculus Coordinator is involved with the day to day coordination and delivery of all first and second year calculus courses in the Mathematics Undergraduate Program.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Undergraduate Program Manager with a dotted line to the Educational Program Director. The Calculus Coordinator also works closely with faculty staff postdoctoral fellows and teaching assistants.
Work Performed
Create maintain and manage accurate grade spreadsheets for over 4000 students in the first-year multi-section calculus program.

Support course work in Canvas and WeBWorK including but not limited to quizzes assignments grades upload online grading tools online discussion tools (Piazza) etc.

Member of the undergraduate program team the Calculus Coordinator is a student facing position and will handle student inquiries concessions emails course requirements and syllabus questions.

Schedules TA and Instructor meetings for all first year calculus courses.

Provides materials including quizzes and exams. Provides administrative support to Instructors-In-Charge.

Assessment management of all first year calculus courses including the full life cycle of midterms and exams; ensuring that printing scanning and uploading of all assessments are completed in a timely manner.

Other projects may be assigned by supervisor.

Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
This position requires a thorough knowledge of office procedures regulations software and technology. Participates in the assessment of newly revamped first year calculus offerings and errors in work including grades upload will impact the student experience as well as the success of the program. Attention to detail is vital in this position as errors in judgment may result in damage to the reputation of the University and the Mathematics department.
Supervision Received
Works independently with general direction from the Undergraduate Program Manager and the Educational Programming Director. Work is reviewed in terms of achievement and effectiveness of the calculus program.

Minimum Qualifications
High School graduation plus two year post secondary diploma plus four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to effectively use Word Excel Outlook and databases at an intermediate level is a requirement. Prior experience working as a teaching assistant for undergraduate mathematics or similar courses at UBC is preferred as is familiarity with undergraduate mathematics. Ability to set up administer troubleshoot and update technical platforms such as WeBWorK Canvas Piazza Overleaf peer grading software and websites. Ability to learn new software programs and learning technologies. Ability to identify and correct missing and incomplete data. Experience with Python (Pandas) R GitHub Unix and command line utilities is an asset but not required. High attention to detail organized with excellent communication and planning skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage a number of projects concurrently. Effective diplomatic and interpersonal skills; highly effective communication in group situations. Ability to understand and apply policies procedures and instructions. Ability to analyze and redesign workflow/business processes to make them more efficient and effective. Ability to listen actively and attentively and obtain clarification as required. Ability to approach interactions with an awareness of sensitive issues. e.g. issues concerning specific cultures. Ability to exercise tact and discretion. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships. Ability to prepare complete concise and understandable documentation. Ability to respond appropriately to inquiries in person on phone and in writing and make appropriate referrals. Ability to anticipate problems and issues and plan ahead.
